sold! i ALMOST went to precision and picked up an x100 tonight!

The deal with the 16GB card and extra OEM battery for $3 seems especially great. I usually ignore those accessory kit offers but will pay a little more attention from now on.

I'm all about aftermarket batteries, but I do want fastest cards possible. So I'm sure this deal will be sorta backwards for me.
Better battery, slower card. :(
But just the money off will be nice! I'll use it to buy my own batteries and cards. Lol!

Edit

Oh wait. Oem battery for $3?! Sold to the spazzy poster on page 1!

Heheheheh

Just wait until 8/12 ;).

OK, I see the wink, but you lost me.

Why wait until 8/12? Even if the rebate period is over, surely that kind of a deal puts a dent in the market. No worries, I was thinking about keeping it anyways.

For fill flash photography and as a normal focal length it will make a nice companion to the X-Pro1. I was gonna have a hard time selling it anyways (mentally).

I bet it will be nice to have the mini-X... plus, you may miss 35mm until they release the X lens equiv.

I wonder if the X10's have the new, de-orb-ified sensor...

Yes, they should, Ray. You can search for my earlier string about buying an X10 after I ran into a Fuji factory rep at a Best Buy on a Sunday evening about a month ago. She said all of the X10s now in stores should have the new sensor. And the serial number on the unit I purchased was higher than the serial number on replacement units that members of this forum were receiving from Fuji.

But I returned my X10 before I ever opened it after taking advantge of Amazon's $395 sale on Panasonic GX1 bodies. While I don't regret buying the GX1, I do have some mixed feelings about letting the X10 go. But I suspect those feelings will pass if the Olympus XZ-2 comes out with a one-inch sensor in it.

So, Amin... are you going to pick up an X100?

It definitely puts a dent in the market in that some people on the fence will know about it, buy at that price, and no longer be in the market for a used one. However, many more people will never be aware of this rebate coming and going, so as long as the price goes back up to $1200 in a couple weeks, I would think your resale value would go back up. It's not such a great rebate that people will snatch them all up just to sell them for a profit.

So, Amin... are you going to pick up an X100?

I'm actually more interested in the X10, but I won't be buying either one. I'm genuinely 100% content with what I've got right now.

Me too. Famous last words..... :D

Actually, the small zoomable compact is the one slot I've left vacant for a while now and I'll no doubt fill it again at some point. And then probably not use it enough and eventually sell it again, but it feels like there's a hole in that spot. There's a chance that when it all shakes out I'll still find the X10 the best compromise / sweet spot solution (now that the orbs are fixed) of the bunch. The IQ from the RX100 looks wonderful but there are a few things you just CANNOT do with it that rule it out for me, in addition to it being a little small and lacking in controls for my taste. The LX7 looks nearly PERFECT from a handling/features/UI standpoint, as well as the zoom range and the fast lens. But I'm a bit skeptical of the small sensor and will have to see a lot more results from it before going that way. No idea what Oly will do, sort of waiting on that. Since I'm not all that concerned with it being so small it can fit in my jeans pocket, I think my perfect version of this camera would be something in a body the size of the X10 or even a Canon G-series / Nikon 7100 that had the 1" Sony sensor, a 24-90 /100 zoom range, and a lens as quick as the LX-7 as well as controls somewhat like the LX-7. But we may not have anything like that for another generation, if then. In which case the X-10 might be the best compromise between IQ, handling, low light, etc. Its certainly the best I've used so far, although I prefer the LX5 in some key ways. But I have to wait and see what else shows up and consider the options so I'm not gonna take advantage of this deal to save $50.

If I was thinking of buying an X-100, though, I'd probably be all over this. Then again, deals like this not long before Photokina always tell me there's probably something else right around the corner that I should wait for...

You know, I actually handled both the X-Pro and the X100 for the first time ever while at B&H yesterday. I could see the X-Pro theoretically replacing my Pentax DSLR kit. A beautiful piece - literally done at the Leica level - but simply out of my price range, at least for a while, especially since you'd have to add a few lenses.

But the X100 really spoke to me in my hands. It's certainly not for everyone and is designed for a certain, considered kind of photography. But it pressed all of my buttons. And now it's available for a grand... with no need to buy additional lenses. I let the X10 go because I got that great Amazon deal on the Panasonic GX1, which still seems like a rational decision to me even if I think the X10 is a great camera.

But the X100 is now haunting me... and has me thinking. I really don't need it given all of my current gear - it's really a niche camera. Sometimes I have to wonder about myself...

Is this a hobby or a profession for you? If its a profession, your professional purchases should make rational sense. If its a hobby, you gotta listen to your gut - its all about getting enjoyment out of it and choosing gear that speaks to you is no small part of that. I had an X100 - I loved it. I got an X-Pro with a couple of lenses. In some ways I like it even more - its definitely a whole lot of camera and I was using it to the exclusion of the X100. But I'd pick up the X100 and I still just liked it soooooo much that it took me a lot longer to finally decide to sell it than it should have based on ANYTHING rational. It's JUST the right size, it feels SOOO right in the hand, the OVF is SOOOO big and bright (even nicer than the X-Pro's which has a lot more it has to do), etc. I finally did sell it and I know if I still had it I wouldn't use it. But I still MISS it!!!! Which is the very definition of insanity! I won't buy another because I have the X-Pro and I think its got a lot of potential as a system as they come out with new lenses and probably bodies as well. But if I didn't have the X-Pro, I'd absolutely still have the X100. Or buy another one. Or something. But I'd have one. There's just something about that Fuji shooting experience with the OVF that's nothing like any of my other gear and I'd miss it too much if I didn't still have it. And if you can't get the X-Pro or if you just don't want the versatility at the price it takes to get it, the X100 is an awesome camera.
