On the trip to Peru a few weeks ago, something happened twice that has me worried. Late in the trip I was standing on railroad tracks and wanted to take a picture. I turned the camera on, and the EVF only came up halfway. I looked through the viewfinder, and the bottom half was electronic and yet the top half was glass. “?!” I switched it to OVF, and down she went. Switched back to EVF, and up she came – but only halfway. I turned the camera off, cursed, then had an idea that maybe gravity would help… so I turned her upside down and switched her back on. Bingo, full EVF. Off, back on, full EVF.
So it behaved fine for another day or two, then randomly did it again somewhere else. Same trick worked, upside down and it worked fine from there on out. It hasn’t done it since, over say 200 more pictures / two weeks. Temps when it misbehaved were like 70F, not especially dusty out, no rain, etc.
I popped into the store where my wife bought it for me (along with a 2 year / $2,000 warranty) and asked the dude’s opinion. “If it hasn’t done it since, I wouldn’t send it in yet. They’ll just test it, not find anything, and mail it back.”
I use the EVF pretty much 100% of the time, for what it’s worth.
Thoughts?
