Small sensor challenge

The Panasonic LX3 that I had circa 2008 was very similar, and it did some very nice things in indoor lighting. Here's one example in a dimly-lit church at ISO 800:

I guess "small" is relative in sensor size. I recently asked in jest "Is MFT the largest of the small sensors or the smallest of the large sensors?"...

I'd say that the (micro)fourthirds system is in the unusual position to be both. :)
A Panasonic GM1 with pancake lens would be 'the largest of the small'... At the other end of the range an old Olympus E1 DSLR does definitely run under 'smallest of the large! (and the EM5 would sit in the middle and offer the best of both worlds)

Funnily enough I entered m43 for it's compactness & quality and ended up loving the silliest combination of sensor size vs camera size - the old E1 :-D

Looking back over the last year I'm realizing that I'm taking more pictures with my phone.
I'll still process these (either in Lightroom Mobile or on my PC) but I'm getting less picky with image quality and phones keep getting better...

Very interesting series. The halloween shot is truly arresting (had me going "what??") and the Friday morning sky shot really grabbed me with the grandeur of the sky. How wide is that wide angle?

Cheers, Jock

Thanks Jock!
Both were taken with the LG G4 (in raw). According to the specs I found online the lens is 'just' a 29mm equivalent. It's recording in 16:9 (or some wide-screenish aspect ratio) though, so I'm not sure if that's affecting the effective field of view in some ways...

P.S.: the pumpkin we saw a week before Halloween when walking along the bay... Probably thrown in by some kids :)

Phone cameras are becoming so so good, I'm finding I am using mine more than I ever did. But I still carry the TZ60 or P610 in my bag most of the time, for a good compromise between IQ, zoom and weight.

Here's a recent from the P610, this fellow sitting on my roof, catching his rays.

No editing apart from a big crop. I suppose I could have done more.

I'm wondering how you managed those macros. Whats the minimum distance for that LG?

The closeups/macros were shot with the older LG G2. Googling just now brought up the number 8cm for minimum focus (but it was one of those searches, where you see the search term on the little bit of text below the link, but once you click on the link, the search term is nowhere to be found on the actual page)

I generally found small sensor cameras to be excellent with macros (one of the reason why I didn't keep the Ricoh GR), but maybe I was just lucky with picking the 'right' cameras :)
