Haven't been shooting much lately and even less than that with the DF. But the weather has finally gotten tolerable again (nice even!) and today I grabbed the DF with a 24mm f2.8 AIS and took a walk for a couple of hours. Nothing special here, but kind of nice to try to give my eye a bit of exercise again.

A hell of a stair rail:

I wholeheartedly agree! I hate to sound pessimistic, but I bet that if Nikon does update the Df, they will end up harming it rather than improving upon it. Like replacing the sensor with the D5 sensor.

I thought that too, but they did a great job improving the D4 sensor into something that is quite special. Let's hope if they ever do upgrade the Df, they give us what we(ok, me) really want: Better AF capability, slightly beefier grip.

There's a rumor out today that Nikon is discontinuing the DF and will announce a replacement by the end of year for a 2017 release. This is all incredibly preliminary guessing right now and the rumor of discontinuing it is just based on one retailer noting this, but others still selling it without any mention of it being discontinued.

The speculation, which makes the most sense to me, is that a new version is likely to have a version of the D5 sensor, with better AF and maybe a few other tweaks. Others are guessing at something like the D750 sensor, but I'm dubious of that because that would be too much like the mainstream part of their lineup to waste on a new model. If they use the D5 sensor, I wouldn't upgrade. If anything, I'd bargain-hunt for a second/backup of the original model. The AF is more than good enough for me, particularly since I shoot the vast majority of my stuff with MF lenses. And the D5 sensor seems to be pretty much designed with a strong emphasis on sport / journalism / low light, but with a real tradeoff in lower ISO dynamic range, where the D4 sensor of the first model is already notably lower than the D610/750 and D810 sensors. To me, the D4/DF sensor is the perfect sweet-spot between low light capability and still having plenty of DR at base ISO for landscapes and such. The D750 and D810 sensors are clearly biased toward extremely good DR at low ISO and the D5 in the exact opposite direction. To me, the existing DF sits squarely where I like it.

In my fantasy world, the Df replacement would have better AF, a microprism or split image screen for manual focusing, a usable secondary dial (the one in the current model is, IMO, unusable), and a 24-30 mp sensor with EXACTLY the same DR and ISO characteristics as the current sensor (which is, by far, my favorite part of the camera.) Not likely to happen.

Just so you know, if I were Nikon, I'd be listening to you.

Just spent a week at the beach, shot very little, but what I did shoot I somehow managed to shoot in jpeg "normal" mode, not even high quality jpegs. So I didn't have my usual raw files to work with. Didn't get a lot I liked, but here are a few. All with the 24-120...
