Mountain Photo Competition Finalist

The photo shows Skye's iconic Inaccessible Pinnacle high in the Black Cuillin on Skye an island off Scotland's west coast. It has been shortlisted as a finalist in Trail Magazine's UK Mountain Photo of the Year Competition.

The photo took a lot of determination since it meant ascending 3000 feet in the dark using crampons, ice axe and head torch so as to be by the summit for sunrise. Four consecutive days I was thwarted by total cloud cover, wind blown spindrift and snow showers but on the fifth day everything came together. The sun shone, the clouds parted and the In Pinn was covered in rime ice. The In Pinn is the hardest of the Munros (Scottish mountains over 3000 feet) to climb and presents a challenging winter climb in its own right.
