Hall of Famer
A Veteran's Day Story:

Raymond Noury, a native of Woonsocket, RI, was a Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross winner. But he simply referred to himself as the luckiest man alive. He was the radio-operator and waist-gunner on the B-24 Liberator "Snow White." TSGT Noury was shot down 22-February 1944 over the town of Pradlo, Czechoslovakia and survived a 5,000 foot fall with a damaged parachute by landing in deep snow drifts. Taken prisoner, he survived several camps and a forced march across most of Germany. Eventually repatriated, he made a living as a businessman running a bakery and had a large family. He was present at every RI visit of the Collings Foundation Liberator, a tribute to the ten other members of his crew who perished. He passed away peacefully in 2013. I was fortunate enough to meet him back in 2007.
