Film Emulation Thread - Post Yours!

I've been experimenting with adding a "Gamma curve" to my raw files. Basically, compute a Gamma function and use the curve to convert 14-bit pixels from the M Monochrom to 16-bit pixels. Then- work with the 16-bit files in Lightroom and Silver Efex 2. My reasoning- pull the shadows up, leave more room in the histogram for post processing.

The original, ISO 5000 straight export to Jpeg:

Converted to 16-bits using a Gamma function, then Silver Efex 2 with Panatomic-X emulation.

Revisiting this thread with a photo I just processed using a VSCO film/emulation 'pack' - the first I have ever purchased and played around with: what VSCO calls the "Alternate Process Collection", a series of presets which emulate various film looks and emulsions that have all been either 'push' processed (overexposed or underexposed) or cross-processed.

This particular DNG/digital negative, from my Lumix GX8, was processed with what they are calling their Portra++ ISO 800 - 'pushed' 2 stops - and with a slightly 'Green' cast - which all sounds rather technical -

But the look and feel seem just right to me for this image -

One more from the new VSCO Film pack 06 - aka the Alternate Process collection - this one an emulation of Portra 160 in what VSCO calls 'vibrant' tones - and regardless of whatever that means, this preset seems to give this photo a more intense, darker muted type of saturated colors than the original digital negative possessed -

Short version: I like it

I had completely forgotten about VSCO, some nice emulation packs there. The following were processed in the basic packs and so long ago I cant even remember what those were... I'd forgotten I even have a membership... oops. These were on iPad.

Another - and IMHO exceedingly cool - VSCO preset of a film emulation, this one from their Film pack 03, their collection of presets that mimic the tones and range of a number of classic instant/Polaroid-style films --- this particular one is an emulation of a classic Fuji instant film FP-100C --- which creates a rather wonderful retro visual 'mood' ---

This photo uses a daguerreotype preset, with many modifications by me. The preset is from a very interesting free collection which I really like. It's free as in it doesn't cost money, but you have to have a twitter or google plus (?) account. If you are feeling brave, you can pick up the collection here:
