Pre-Orders are open for Luminar 2018

Wow, I am impressed so far. I delayed on the preorder, but went to the Mac App Store today and they have a sale for $59 to celebrate that Luminar 2018 is available. Purchased and installed and it going to be fun! Finally feel like the Photos app is going to get back to or exceed Aperture.

Another deal on Luminar - this time from Fuji Rumors. With their discount code plus all the other incentives, previous Luminar version owners and the Beta Testers could buy the 2018 version for as low as USD 39 (!!!) which is 10 bucks lower than what I paid as a Beta Tester. Grrr. :)

Also the same deal on the sister HDR App Aurora:

I’ll twiddle with it for a while. I use PS Elements so I can give them some time to develop. I have a Mac and Windows system so I can compare.

I was exploring Luminar as a LR replacement. I don't think it's ready for that, but it's actually kind of fun in it's own right as a filters program, and it might be worth a purchase given what they are looking to do in 2018. hmmm....

I've reverted to using Aperture on my Mac Mini, with Luminar2018 and AuroraHDR2018 as plugins. The only frustration I have is that neither seem to recognise the MacPhun Creative Kit (Mac only, sorry Win users) and that is a pest. I'll have to email them

Yep, I sent them two emails with no response so far, the oldest transmission is now at least a week and a half old. A solidly written and dynamically updated FAQ would reduce that number of inquiries I'd wager.

Well, good news is that yesterday's update must have uploaded a ton of RAW file recognition. My Fuji and Nikon files are now being recognized.

Some weirdness with the RAW rotate: note the "-20" value circled on the right, look at the transposition jag on the left. Apparently it's not treating the entire picture as an object and rotating it inside a fixed frame (as you would with other products), and you'd just have to crop in to remove the missing corners that eventually occur.

Alas yesterday's update slowed my macbook so much I was getting beachballs up the wazoo. Shut everything down except Luminar, no change. Guess I could be nearly at the end of updates. Might just have to use it only on the Mac Mini, which is a bit of a bummer, since I do most editing on the macbook or ipad.
