Glad to see this thread still going strong  Here's a recent, impromptu pic of a Laughing Dove resting in the afternoon, at home in Jaipur, India. Nikon Coolpix P7700, 1/125, f4, ISO 80, 200 mm equivalent focal length.
Looks pretty appealing to me: Nikon Coolpix P330 Hands-on Preview: Digital Photography Review
It has the same 1/1.7", 12 m.p. sensor as in the P7700, which got a pretty decent rating at DXO mark for RAW IQ:
Nikon Coolpix P7700 - DxOMark
It has RAW mode, plenty of manual controls and a...
PDH, thank you! Yes, I missed that thread and thanks so much for pointing it out. Have already made the change in the image and will do so on all subsequent posts :-) Thank again!

Thank you, Amin, Xuereb and BBW, for your kind words. I hope to be more active here henceforth.
Here's another one taken at dusk at Keoladeo Ghana National Park, India, with a Nikon Coolpix P7700 (at ISO 800). I hope Peacocks are allowed :-)

Glad to see that this thread is still going strong! I missed out on photography last year owing to work demands and have restarted intermittently this year. Got a Nikon Coolpix P7700 which I am enjoying immensely. Here's a recent image, taken at Keoladeo Ghana National Park, India (with the...
I bought lens adapter tubes with almost every A series Canon PowerShot I had (A95, A620, A640, A590 IS, A 720 IS) and the G9 and used them with polarising filters on many occasions for water and sky shots. My old film era linear polariser works perfectly on a Canon A590 IS! What a pity Canon or...
Thanks again for your kind comments. A polarising filter makes a huge difference to outdoor shoots, particularly landscapes and I would hesitate to do a serious outdoor shoot (with a compact) without a polariser. In fact, I have not come across too many discussions on the internet about using a...
Hello again, friends. I've not been active here for sometime; not active as a photographer actually owing to work demands. Last week, when I went out on a birding outing (main agenda) to Sambhar lake (Rajasthan, India) with some friends, I took my Canon PowerShot G9 along. We were lucky to...
I am so happy to see that this thread is going strong after so many months. A BIG THANKS to everyone who has contributed!
Here's one more from me, a recent photograph: Doves at sunset. Photographed with a Canon PowerShot A800:
What a lovely thread! Here's my little contribution. This (rustic) photograph was taken in the (two centuries old) Jaipur walled city, India, with a Canon Powershot A640:
I like the S100 a lot and am waiting for sample images (RAW) to turn up! With the G series facing stiff competition from the mirrorless segment in terms of both (physical) size and price, I wouldn't be surprised if the S100 becomes the Canon flagship compact for now, this (physical) size has...
Anyone who doesn't like winters is most welcome to come to North India in summers (May is the best month), I can promise 45 degrees C (113 degrees F) temperatures with dust storms thrown in :popcorm2:
Here's a photograph from the city of Udaipur, India, of some bathers getting ready for a...
I've used only Canon and Nikon kit lenses. My experience: Nikon: excellent (for the price), Canon: Terrible (even for the low price). I'm pleased to share some landscape photographs taken mainly with kit lenses: Landscapes - a set on Flickr
For many years I've dreamt of owing a camera like this and can't believe someone actually made it! Hats off to Fuji for taking the bold step. And using Ken Rockwell's lingo, suddenly many compact cameras have started looking 'dinky' by comparison; this looks like a real photographers tool!
I'd highly recommend WordPress as well, the TwentyTen theme is very powerful and using the 'pages' functionality one can build very capable websites. Another great thing about WordPress is that it works on the server and is therefore OS independent. It requires a learning curve which is totally...
Dan, an interesting point of view, I agree with it entirely. In fact, if we focus more on the image and less on the camera (or technical specs for that matter), small sensor (pocket-able) compacts become fantastic picture making tools!
I would recommend Canon PowerShot SX130 IS (costs about $240), it'll help you zoom closer to the performers and also shoot HD video with a very sharp and quiet, image stabilized lens that also zooms (optically) in video mode. Here's the trick: set the resolution to 'M1' (6 megapixel), shoot in...
Lovely writeup, Dan, thoroughly enjoyed going through it, thank you very much! I've long been a Canon PowerShot A series fan and I think all Canon A6XX (A610, A620, A630, A640 and A650IS) and A7XX (A700, A710IS and A720IS) series PowerShots are cameras I'd love to have in my collection. I shot...
I agree, I too find most current cameras too complicated for my liking. In fact while I have my sights firmly focused on the new Nikon D5100 DSLR, its complicated button arrangement is something I have not been able to digest!
Last year I purchased a Canon PowerShot A495 and enjoy shooting...
Serious Compacts has a 'Small DSLR' forum where I had started the thread below when D5100 was launched :-)
