It's definitely worth it. If you don't already have the 18-200, that is.

    Birds Heron

Cycling home from work each day, I see a lot of birds. I have my eye on a bird of prey that seems to know when I don't have my camera, and only appears on such occasions. Today I was fully prepared to get the little blighter, and he was nowhere to be seen. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to...

    Beans

Not as ridiculously zoomed in as my usual macros, but I think these beans still count, don't they?
  10. G

Bee with a new macro bellows.

They are a complete PITA. I think that with practice it will get better, but Autumn has just started, and all the insects have disappeared. Maybe it's time to buy some snake food from the local pet store to practice on.

    Even smaller baby snail

Here's another baby snail I found in the back garden. So you can get an idea of the size, the shell is 5mm long. I know the focus is not the best, but I'll get there. It's really difficult when you are in so close, and have such a small depth of field.

Bee with a new macro bellows.

I know. One thing that really amazes me is the richness of the colour. It's much better than with a close-up lens.

Bee with a new macro bellows.

I just bought a macro bellows this afternoon, and this is my first attempt using it. This is a bee in my back garden on a 135mm lens with the aforementioned bellows. For flexibility, I used a monopod instead of a tripod. That takes some getting used to, but is much better than handheld. The...

    Baby Snail

Too true. Living in The Netherlands, I have to make do with a back garden the size of a postage stamp, but it still fills with all sorts of wildlife. I'll soon make a study of our resident Blue Tits.

    Echinacea

But don't you think they look like Audrey II's lips:

    Pea Aphids

It's not bad at all. I bought a MD-NEX converter for about €50, and got all 5 lenses, the 2x magnifier and a +1 and +2 close up lens at a local charity shop for less than €100. Not a bad days shopping. They have a load of M42 stuff there, too (including macro bellows), so I've just ordered an...

    Ladybird 2

The plant wasn't on it's way out, I don't know what plant it is, but it shuts up for the night, and opens again in the morning. I just caught it in good light before it woke up. I first saw this plant whilst on holiday in Italy, and there the local bugs used to climb in at night and use it as...

I like this photo, but I always have trouble making the compound eye look good.

    Pea Aphids

Thanks. It was magnified so much that mere focussing didn't work any more. I had to move the camera by gently nudging the tripod feet in and out. It took me about an hour to get this shot.

    Ladybird 2

Last one for this evening. A ladybird spotted on my cycle ride home. I love the contrasting colours in this one.

    Dragonfly

I came home from work one afternoon, and a dragonfly came to rest on a beech bush in the front garden. He stayed there long enough for me to have quite a long session with him, this being the best shot:

    Pea Aphids

This was taken with a MD mount 70-210 zoom lens, a 2x converter, +3 close-up, and a macro lens on top. Add a builders lamp to the mix and this is my best shot of a pea aphid (greenfly): These ugly little chaps are about a millimetre long.

...but it was eating my plum tree: Any help in identification is greatly appreciated, as are comments.

    Grasshopper

I spotted this grasshopper on my way home from work. The focus isn't tack sharp around the head, but I still like it.

    Ladybird

Buoyed by positive comments from earlier posts, I feel like posting loads more shots. I don't know if this one is allowed because it's not taken with an EVIL camera, but rather a Casio Exilim EX-F1, with my beloved Raynox M-250 stuck on the front.

    Baby Snail

This one did. He was stuck to our back door for the best part of a week prior to his rude awakening by me. He's safely back in his rest spot now. And thanks for the nice comment.

Sony Nex 5 with a Minolta MD Zoom Rokkor 75-200mm. I've become a bit of a collector of MD lenses since getting an adapter ring, and the quality is amazing for the price (7 lenses of above average to excellent quality for around €100).
