December Cell Phone/Mobile Device Pic a Day...or just when you feel like posting

THE HAGUE I like this one, as I managed to get a subtle shallow DOF in the shot. Not that easy with a cameraphone. ( BTW, I created a project in my portfolio with recent "faux instax" shots in diptych-style. You are invited to "appreciate", if you like it  )

@ lucpher: Great reflections on previous page and this page. THE HAGUE From today's walk in the park; getting rid of a mega headache + some nice shots as a bonus.

    Ricoh Ricoh GV-1 Viewfinder

Hi Kristin, I got the GV-1 instead of the GV-2, because the GV-2 was not in stock anywhere at the time I bought my GRDIII. I find the 28mm marking lines in the GV-1 finder display quite accurate. Of course, you have some parallax issues with close subjects, but that's something you get used to...

    Ricoh Ricoh GV-1 Viewfinder

I have a GRDIII, but I don't have the wide angle lens. 21mm is just a bit too wide for me, 28mm is just perfect. But I guess it depends on the type of photos you are taking. I do have the GV-1 viewfinder, and I love it. I didn't use external viewfinders on previous compacts, but getting the...

December Cell Phone/Mobile Device Pic a Day...or just when you feel like posting

No, you are not missing something  The photos are inspired by the old skool Fujifilm Instax mini, credit card sized pictures. And I although I certainly do not claim to produce the same effect, I do think that the shots lose their mini instax-like charme when one sees them too large...

    Reactions to photographs...

In general, I think the way we look at photos is changing. Our current visual culture is dominated by mobile photography. Young generations grow up with their phone as most important (or even only) camera. The iPhone is the most used camera on Flickr and Facebook streams are full of...

Ray, no reason to feel "embarassed". Mobile photography is very personal. More than with any other camera type or photography genre, you can do whatever you like. That's actually one of the things I like about it.

November Cell Phone Pic a Day

Thanks, Ray. The odd thing is: as much as I love my GRD III, somehow shooting with my phonecam gets me more interesting results. Not sure why, probably the limitations, or more carefree approach.

THE HAGUE (Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I personally like the imperfection of blurriness)

    Hello from The Hague (NL)

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Agga, represent! But as a real "Hagenees", I like Rotterdam as well. Great city to shoot pictures, I wish I could spend more time there.

    Hello from The Hague (NL)

BBW invited me to introduce myself here. So here I am. Although I have been following SeriousCompacts pretty much from the start, I have registered myself just recently. I live in The Hague and that's where I shoot most of my photos. I'm not a gear head, not a brand fetishist and probably...

Great photographers and their compact cameras

Ian McDiarmid (Getty) and Neil Turner (British Press Photographers Association) used a Canon G11 and a Canon PowerShot S95 to shoot the riots in London, earlier this year. Quote from the article:

Great photographers and their compact cameras

Shooting undressed models everyday is a dangerous job. I better stick with street photography.

    Help! ''Off-photography period' :-(

My way to overcome the occasional I-don't-feel-like-taking-pictures period: I don't take pictures. Seriously. I just do not take a camera with me. At first I feel kinda relieved and liberated. No pressure to look for great shots. But after a while (sometimes weeks or even months) I get...

Which "kind of fan" are you?

I'm a "lo-fi" fan. I don't like pictures that are too clean, too perfect. Perfect is boring. In my analogue years I loved to shoot with my Lomo (and I probably still would, if I had the budget for film and developing). For me, photography is not about brands or gadgets. A camera is just a tool...
