Sigma TCSTV Sigma DP2 Quattro Review

There is no conclusion with compromises, but the compromise is the conclusion in itself. One I`m not too willing to accept easily when it comes to my toys I use as a hobbyist. Thus all the quirky cameras I enjoy using.

Sigma TCSTV Sigma DP2 Quattro Review

I beg to differ as I buy cameras because of what they can do best and not to find flaws. In the end it`s always about compromises and the Swiss Army Knife solution is too boring and eventually not satisfying. But then I have a stable of cameras which do not seem to convince testers and partly...

Sigma TCSTV Sigma DP2 Quattro Review

If the Merrill is "unusable" above iso 200 then this review is unusable as well. Why so many "crap", "garbage" and unsubstantiated statements such as "rather like 20MP". And how about focusing on what the camera does and is good at, rather than ranting about what it is not. For landscapes or...

Sigma Sigma DP Series Image Thread

The good old Merrills are still unmatched for landscapes, cityscapes, stills unless one wants to go all the way to MF. My A7r had to stay home and give space to the DP2M and DP3M for this mountain trip.

Dam, I miss these Nikon A colors. I switched from the A to the GR because of the wide angle adapter. But still can`t tweak the GR files to my full satisfaction as far as colors are concerned.

    Sony I miss a viewfinder

    A7 & 2.8 35mm & 1.8 55mm about USD 3k, weather sealing and EVF included. RX1 & EVF About USD 3k. With EVF the RX1 is as "bulky" as the A7 & 35mm.

Featured: 'Sigma DP2 Quattro Test Shoot Pics and First Impressions' by ggibson

All one can conclude yet, is that the M renders quite a bit more micro contrast as a number of direct and online accessible comparisons demonstrate and that the Q offers a slightly higher resolution. Better iso performance and improvements in color have yet to be seen. Some early testers, who...

With all due respect, how can you conclude on improvement in colors, resolution and iso performance with having owned a DP1x at some time but not a DP2 Merrill?

Can a dedicated mirrorless shooter find true happiness with a DSLR?

The M & 28 Cron do not offer any weight advantage over a 610 or DF & Nikkor G 28 lens. The M is more compact but the lack of a grip makes it ergonomically inferior imo, not a camera one wants to carry casually with one hand.

What's the most compact "serious" camera?

There ain`t no serious cameras which fit into skinny jeans. Ricoh GR: Best IQ, UI & lowest weight and slimmest form factor. Sony RX100 (1/2/3) more versatile, still shirt pocket sized but weighting more and relative to the Ricoh a compromise in IQ and UI. Panasonic GM1: in between IQ...

Can a dedicated mirrorless shooter find true happiness with a DSLR?

To me it`s not the best in class high iso capability of the DF which makes it stand out, but the richness and subtle color/tonal transitions its sensor delivers at low iso. Imo this is were it even (slightly) surpasses the excellent Sony 24MP sensor used in the RX1 and others. And as Ray...

Sony RX100 III review on DPR

With the EVF and Sony handgrip added, my "shooting experience" with the RX100M3 could not be any better. The most engaging shirt pocket size camera I have ever used. It has very fast and accurate AF, surprisingly effective IS, it`s highly configurable and aperture, shutter speed, sensitivity...

Why is the rum always gone? Some thoughts on digital camera design.

Fully agree. And making e.g. these sturdy Leica M bodies with mechanical RF which can last a lifetime would make sense again.

Panasonic Panasonic Announces Lumix DMC-FZ1000 Digital Camera

I guess this camera has some appeal to those as much interested in video as they are in stills. For photo shooters only, I don`t see how the FZ1000 can be of any advantage or appeal over a mft (used em5) with a selection of "mid of the line" zooms.

Leica Showcase Leica M Image Thread

Congratulations to your M9. I don`t want to be nit picking, but the M9 produces files as perceived as "sharp" (as much micro contrast) as the a7r does if the RF is correctly calibrated and focus spot on. Of course, the Sony beats the Leica in resolution. And lastly, rendering is a function of...

Definitely not. Logic made me travel with the a7r plus 24-70mm and 10-18mm zooms and the f1.8 55mm prime to Vietnam. Spec and file quality wise the a7r is a monster. But I simply do not seem to connect with it and think for my style of shooting (travel/reportage/street) it`s the wrong tool. I...
