Sigma Announces DP1M (Merrill Compact) and DP2M with 15MPx3 sensor from SD1

The SD-1 is still $6900 at B&H. I have fears that the price on this little camera is going to be well over $1000. Hope I'm wrong!

Thank you so much Ray! As soon as I can remember to bring my SD card in my car I'm going to listen to your interview. :) The images that accompany it are stellar - very inspiring work.

Thank you for your kind words! Not a good time of year for the type of outdoor pictures I usually take, so I had think outside of my own box a little on this one. :)

Ricoh Ricoh GR Digital IV Review: A Field Report

Introduction I really wanted to review the Ricoh GR Digital IV. Its predecessors have been beloved by street (and ā€œstrollā€) photographers, particularly for black and white shooting. It is small and ā€œpocketableā€ (4.28 x 2.35 x 1.28") and built like a tank (magnesium body with a great rubbery...

    Fuji X10 v. X100 v. GRD IV

Hate to just jump in here but I only have time to say this - the manual focus on the X10 is notoriously horrible.

Fujifilm X10 Review: A Field Report

Welcome back to the fold! :) And yes, I have bought lots of stuff from B&H over the years and I've never had a single problem dealing with them - they are great!

Fujifilm X10 Review: A Field Report

Yeah, what they said. :) I haven't have the privilege of using an X100 so have no direct experience, though my impression is that what everyone else said is exactly right. The x100 has incredible image quality and this smaller sensor just can't keep up with that. But they are also right that...

Fujifilm X10 Review: A Field Report

Thanks! I did not keep the DP2x. I was very tempted, and still am, but I think that having purchased the x10, it is less likely that I will get a DP. The Fuji will fill the same spot in my bag but is a much better low light performer. In the end, it is versatility of the x10 that put it over...

Fujifilm X10 Review: A Field Report

I love the 25mm too. Just figure that the X10 will replace the spot it and and e420 fill in my arsenal. :)

Fujifilm X10 Review: A Field Report

Lili - funny that you mention Oly and Ricoh. I plan to sell my e-420 and 25mm pancake to defray the cost of the X10, but that leaves me with an e-620 and 3 zoom lenses I intend to keep. Love that kit! And I'm thinking about getting a Ricoh to round it out for those times when I don't even...

Fujifilm X10 Review: A Field Report

I haven't really shot enough with the camera to develop much of a strategy for dynamic range. One of the reasons that I usually shoot RAW is that JPEG conversion typically throws out information in the the highlights and shadows first and I want some say on what stays and what goes. For the X10...

Fujifilm X10 Review: A Field Report

Introduction Ah, the Fujifilm X10 - the much anticipated smaller sibling of the ā€œsurprisingly popularā€ Fujifilm X100. I put those words in quotes because Iā€™m not sure exactly who was so surprised - the web sites I followed were anticipating its release with great excitement - but...

Sigma DP2x Review: A Field Report

I have not used 40mm equivalent on an m4/3 camera, but I strongly suspect that serhan's response is accurate. The DP2x was faster at focusing that the DP2s, which supposedly was faster than the original, but the auto focus still lags most other cameras I have tried recently. It is a great...

This is straight L size. I've only had the camera a couple of days and haven't had much opportunity to test it yet. So far I have to say that I am really impressed with the build quality of the camera and that the sensor seems to be really good. The menu system is getting in my way some as I...

I've had the camera for a couple of days now (a review copy from B&H for this very site), but it has mostly been rainy here and all of the fall leaves are pretty much gone. Still, here are a couple - the first a quick snap during a pit stop at a gas station (shot in "Velvia" simulation) and the...

Sigma DP2x Review: A Field Report

I know what you mean. I had not really missed the SP2s (which I only had to review) until I shot this camera for a while. But the pictures from the Foveon sensor are really amazing, in my opinion. The DPs are cameras to which the photographer must adapt, rather than the other way around.

Sigma DP2x Review: A Field Report

Amin is probably in a better position than I am to answer that question, and he has. :) The photos from both of the DP cameras I have used compare favorably to the ones from my Olympus E-420 (10Mp) and E-620 (12Mp) cameras. The Oly pics require a little more sharpening look as clear as the...

Sigma DP2x Review: A Field Report

Introduction The Sigma DP2x represents a modest update to the previous DP2s, itself a modest update to the DP2. At 4.5 x 2.3 x 2.2 inches, it is a compact camera even though it sports an APS-C sized Foveon sensor. Itā€™s exterior is a little plain, but it is metal-clad and well built...
