Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

Hi Ray. I'm not taking issue with what you're saying, but can you help me understand it a little better. What is it that you don't like about the interface? What other pocketable cameras have an interface that you've liked. I've owned the Canon s95 and s100, and don't recall the user experience...

Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

That's a fantastic shot, Wolfhgang. May I ask if you used any in-cam HDR or DRO with it, and if so, what settings? Did you use the 'standard' colour profile or another? Did you do any post processing? I very much like the tonal range and colours...

Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

Fantastic images, Kian. In response to your comments re blown highlights and blocked shadows, I don't think the camera is quite so bad ... in fact, I was quite happy when I saw the dynamic range it could capture. But there are conditions--as with most/all cams--where clouds will blow out. I'm...

Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

Hi Boid - I definitely think your camera should be producing better images than what you're getting out of it. Both in terms of detail and dynamic range (you have some nasty looking blown-out clouds in one shot). Here is a shot I took a couple of weeks ago in Bangkok the day after I bought the...

Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

Yes, I can see the difference. If I were you, I'd take my camera back to the shop drop your memory card into another RX100, take some shots, then back in your own camera to take some similar shots. If you see differences--and I suspect you will--I'd be firmly requesting a replacement. :smile...

Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

I'm starting to think you have a (very) bad copy. Here's a comparison of f6.3 and f11 (click to size up). While you can see some diffraction in the form of reduced sharpness at f11, it's nowhere near as bad as your image. And this is the edge of the f11 version.... not bad at all, I think.

Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

To be clear, I wasn't referring to people on this specific forum ... talking more about other forums where I spend time (I'm quite new to this specific site). Also, I highlighted the possibility that there is some variation in production quality. Never suggested that users were imagining...

Sony RX100 owners: still loving it?

I'm getting the sense that there may be some quality variation with RX100 units (some are made in Japan and others in China, though I have no idea if that's a factor). I've noticed people in different forums talking about IQ issues I just don't see on my MiJ RX100. Some people get glowing...

Sony Some portraits with the RX100

Yes, all three were processed. They were in-cam jpegs, so I didn't do much. For the first and 3rd, I did some cleaning up of facial imperfections; in the first one, I also darkened the background (which was actually a turned-off TV screen behind her) and mildly lightened some shadows on her...

Sony Some portraits with the RX100

Never thought a pocketable camera could take portraits that look this good! My first week with the camera and loving it. [Click images to enlarge for detail]

Sony Sony RX100 Miniature Video effect

Just tried it. Set the camera to miniature effect then pressed the video button. The video is 'normal', with no miniature effect applied. Perhaps not surprising since when you shoot a still with the effect, it takes a couple of seconds to process.
