Fuji Trial and error with a home made light box

If you want an inexpensive, reliable speedlite, I've had good luck with Yongnuo. Seems like the older model (YN560 III) sells for about £47 on Amazon. If that's not in the cards right now, experiment with some reflective material like aluminum foil inside the box opposite the i40. Cheat the...

Fuji Showcase Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 Mirror

I'd like to try this when it gets a little warmer out, maybe with a loupe to really nail the focus (although I suspect that what I really need is a DIY lens cap aperture reducer to knock it down a couple stops and boost the depth of field just a bit). Perhaps this is the best I can get from such...

Fuji Wintry days with the 18-55mm f/2.8-4: Best kit lens ever?

I've been all through that park in the warmer weather, it does make an interesting subject in the snow as well. Nice to find another X-shooter here in Westchester, perhaps we'll run into each other one day.

    Fuji X100s images

Lovely tonal quality in these shots, Ian. Is this Fuji's in-camera B&W (perhaps with a filter) or RAW with your skilled PP?

Fuji Wintry days with the 18-55mm f/2.8-4: Best kit lens ever?

Well well, I see you've been shooting nights at Ridge Hill. Almost surprised I'm not IN your picture. A few from Untermyer Gardens, too - also in the neighborhood. Guess we travel the same paths... Nice tones and contrast in these shots, and nice overall review of the best "kit" zoom I've ever...

Fuji Showcase Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 Mirror

Picked up a Rokinon 300mm 1:6.3 (fixed aperture) mirror lens from Amazon Warehouse deals for $178 + tax. Supposedly it's "Used - Very Good" condition and there's some small visible flaw, if so I can't find it. Anyway, seemed like a good opportunity to try out one of the few native X-mount...

Fuji Can anyone refute that Fuji inflates its ISO numbers?

OUCH. Does LR know that the LEGO logos on the side of the box or the "Who" in Guess Who are red? In other words, can you make a change to the HSL sliders and get those reds to look like the Sony or even the Oly? Also strange because earlier today I read a post from someone saying the reds were...

Fuji Can anyone refute that Fuji inflates its ISO numbers?

Amin, thank you for this clear and detailed demonstration. Not asking you to do this, but I would be interested in seeing a similar side-by-side brand comparison addressing the question of highlight recovery and shadow detail, because I think it's the other side of the same ISO coin. If I can...

    Fuji X100s aperture bug ?

Yup, it's true. And it really does make you say "REALLY?" You can brighten the display with a long push of the Q button so you can SEE the LCD better in bright light, but to actually engage the ND and drop the exposure 3 stops, you have to press multiple buttons a minimum of 6 times. The camera...

    Fuji X100s aperture bug ?

+1. Absolutely right. Put that functionality where it belongs (both mechanically and intuitively) and you gain the use of a whole three-way control for some other operation when in aperture priority mode.

Fuji Fuji X100s - one more "first impression" post...

    Fuji X100s Manual Focusing

100% agree. In ideal lighting with just the right subject matter and some time to fiddle (or maybe with a lot more practice), split image will be a killer feature. Focus peaking seems to work in a wider variety of circumstances and I prefer it (so far, anyway). Also agree with others that it...

    X100 street in Gloucester

I like 3, but #2 is the winner for me! Love the situation you captured, the perspective, the DOF just enough to keep the entire subject sharp and blur everything else. It keeps me looking, and wondering what is he thinking, what is she dreaming, where will they go when they leave the bench, what...

    Show: Beautiful Women (feminine beauty)

100% agree that your marvelous B&W conversion is the winner here. Even with the purple knocked out of the bg in #1, the remaining wrap light on her shoulders and hair ends up looking almost exactly like fringing, and we Fujians have become so attuned to looking for that artifact in X-series...

A few images from New Orleans

Fun with Silver Efex - what are your favorite settings?

I just had the same thought yesterday. Since NIK has a suggested workflow, each of those different NIK tools should be able to be added as panels in the LR develop module. Now you have to "Edit In" several times to follow their workflow, and that feels clunky after just one time.

    X100s Image thread

Received today, shipped with firmware 1.01. The S/N is 31A000XX which I assume to be in a very low range (unless the digits after A are manufacturing location rather than sequential build order). The autofocus is somewhat improved over X100 firmware 1.3, but not so much that it deserves the kind...

Fuji X20 Arrival, First Shots (many)

Thanks, Rico. Your set from SA is great, lots of character and personality in the people and a real feeling of the place itself. Would not have expected conical party hats and cupcakes, but maybe some things are universal now. Great panoramas in the set, that's one feature of the X-series I...

    X10/X20 Fashion Portraiture

The quality of your X10 photos showed what that small camera was capable of producing in the right hands. You set the bar very high with the results you could get out of that (relatively) small sensor in ambient light. Even if you can accomplish much more with the X100S, it will never seem to be...

Fuji X20 Arrival, First Shots (many)

I'm taking a photo trip to Cuba in a few weeks. Then I got my...

Fuji X20 Arrival, First Shots (many)

Thanks Peter and Dennis! I'm loving this compact little Fuji already. I meant to give a glimpse of this handy little setup - this is the EF-20 with Yongnuo RF-603C trigger on a Canon flash stand. Incredibly small and featherweight, definitely going to be part of the complete Fuji accessory bag.

Lovely comp and tones. Great that the XE-1 did this conversion internally, I keep being amazed at how well these X-series know what they SHOULD be doing artistically, and then how well they execute it technically.

    Downtown Walk w/the X-E1

Yes, indeed it is. I grew up just north of Morristown (in Boonton) and I went to high school in Morristown, so I am very familiar with the area (well, the area as it was oh so many years ago). Terrific colonial history, and you have inspired me to go back to the area for a photo walk in the near...
