    Leica Some thoughts on M5

They are "utilitarian" to a degree that exceeds just about any other Leica camera I have seen or used. When considered against all other members of the M line, they are unique in that they seem to exude, just sitting there on the table in front of you, the urgency that must have been felt at...

    Leica Some thoughts on M5

It seems everyone, including myself, using an M5 today loves the thing. The first one I purchased was a 2 lug, and then I came across a three lug at a very reasonable price on Ebay and purchased it. The accurate metering, as well as the fact that you can view shutter speed in the viewfinder...

    Leica EVF Leica X

Oh yeah. camera, Leica case, four batteries, Oly evf, and Leica external flash (Leica SF24D) for under $1K. it included the box and all manuals too. I did not need it but..........you know.

    Leica EVF Leica X

I recently encountered a deal on a used x2, including evf (olympus.) The Olympus evf is more than adequate. I am not certain if the Leica evf is substantially better, but, in my opinion, the Olympus is good. If I recall correctly, in it's day (not that long ago) the Olympus VF-2 was considered...

    Nikon Just got a D750

There's SOOOOO much of this old stuff out there, though, I don't think you have to worry much about the prices getting high. You might have to spend $300-400 if you want a 50 f1.2 AIS in good shape, but there are soooo many good old lenses out there for less than $100, it's really kind of fun to...

    Nikon Just got a D750

When I exited the DSLR world, the camera that I gave up was the D700. If I could go back, now owning the D750, I would keep that d700. I like the D750. It is a good camera. However, the one downside to the D750 is that it is a constant reminder of how poor a decision it was to get rid of the d700.

    Nikon Just got a D750

Those are some spectacular bird photographs. I made an impulse purchase when the D750 first came out. I do not know what caused it, maybe it was the fact that it felt so good in hand. It also could have been the tilt-screen feature, as I have grown to love that part of some of the mirrorless...

    Fuji Fuji X30 announced

I forgot, I had misgivings about the OVF begin replaced by the EVF. In good light, the EVF on the x30 seems almost of OVF quality in image presentation. It really seems that good to me.

Pentax New Pentax (not the FF)

Was the K200D the predecessor of the K5 models? IOW, at one time, Pentax flagship?

    Nikon Coolpix A in transition?

They are tough. A week after I bought mine, I had it sitting in my lap at a Red's game, when action on the field caused me to jump to my feet. This action resulted the A being catapulted to a height of about four feet, and a distance of four or five feet to my right. I watched, in horror- this...

    Nikon Coolpix A in transition?

I too bought the A at introduction price. I wanted the OVF but remained stiff-necked and refused the pay the $400 for the thing. Recently, when B&H made the offer of selling me the $400 dollar OVF, and throw in a free Coolpix A, I could not resist. Now I have a spare A.

    Fuji Fuji X30 announced

I guess the big knock on the X30 is the fact that, like some of the other small sensor compacts, e.g. Nikon V, things fall apart pretty fast above ISO 400. I notice the IS on my x30 is pretty good, and does allow me to stay at ISO 400 or below in most shooting situations. It seems there is...

Sigma Sigma DP Series Image Thread

Nice shots of a couple of very pretty red cars. You know, its funny, I own a 78 911sc as well as a DPM2. In some ways the two are comparable in the roles they play in their separate worlds. The 911, while very elegant in build and appearance, it a brute in operation. Little forgiveness. Full...

"Closing Our Browsers" (on the impending death of browsing)

Anyone who knows me will attest to the fact that I am a person who has a very caustic view of government intrusion into private matters. But, I am somewhat behind the recent effort, or at least the examination, by U.S. government in the area of "net neutrality." My hope is that the threat of...

Fuji So, has anyone purchased and used the Fuji X30?

I thought it was pretty neat when I played around with one at the local camera shop. The size kind of it kind of turned me off though. I'm curious if any owners who previously used X20/X10 find the X30 to be worth the upgrade.

Canon G7x DPReview Review is up

I read the review with the camera sitting next to my computer. I've enjoyed playing around with the GX7 and could not believe that the overall evaluation seemed so negative. The complaints about start-up, shot to shot times, focus issues, manual focus, etc. are not things that have deterred my...

Canon VERY Initial impressions of the G7X

I tried it both ways. With the AF beam, it would not even hunt, it just locked on focus as normal. Without the beam, it would hunt a bit. In fairness, it is not pitch black under the desk; but it is pretty dim. Certainly darker than you would encounter in a lit room or before sundown outdoors...

Canon VERY Initial impressions of the G7X

I could not resist, I did have to try one and decided to buy. On the fist day with the thing I noticed that-out of the blue- I was having some difficulty getting the camera to focus. Even in fairly bright light. The problem seemed to come out of nowhere as it was focusing well after initial...

    Canon Canon G7X shooters impressions

I had a chance to examine and shoot the G7X at the local camera shop today; was able to do a side by side with the RX100II. a. While small, it is not truly pocket-able. At least not in the sense that my S90 is pocket-able. It appears larger than the RX100II in every dimension. b. The lens...

Micro 4/3 The official I don't want the LX100 thread

I get the point you are trying to make. How much did it cost you to make this inquiry? How much does it cost the rumor sites to take their surveys? How much did the V1 fiasco cost Nikon?

Micro 4/3 The official I don't want the LX100 thread

I am in a complaining mood. Better to vent here than at the wife. It seems Panasonic, as well as most camera manufacturers, have considerable disdain for those who shell out $ for their products. I find it interesting that, considering the number of cameras I have purchased, and registered...

Fuji Fuji X30 Announced: Tilt screen, same EVF as X-E2, MANUAL MOVIE CONTROLS!!!!

Ever get the feeling you are being watched? Here is a of a shot I took today with the x20 in Program mode at ISO 800. Would the x30 render a better image?

Fuji Fuji X30 Announced: Tilt screen, same EVF as X-E2, MANUAL MOVIE CONTROLS!!!!

Ricoh, Pertaining strictly to image quality, what are the improvements in the x30? I mean, if I go out and take an image, at ISO 800, with the X20 and the X30, using the same settings, what improvements are going to be obvious when I enlarge to 100%. Thanks for all the time and effort on...

    Fuji A question about x100

Not a complaint, just a request for verification that my new, to me, x100 is behaving normally. I notice the camera does not do a very good job of focusing on anything that is less than three feet from the front of the lens when not in the macro mode; when in macro, it does a less than...

Fuji First look at the X100T

I have had my used x100 for a week now. Knowing what i know now, had I the chance to by a new x100 for $850, I would buy the new one over the used one I did purchase. About the only thing that could make me happier with the x100 would be having the new camera warranty. It is a 12A serial number...

Fuji Fuji X30 Announced: Tilt screen, same EVF as X-E2, MANUAL MOVIE CONTROLS!!!!

I agree! I do not care how wonderful the EVF is. The OVF was the one feature that made the x20 truly unique. Now, the x30 squares off with the RX100III, not to mention the G5 or new LX from Panasonic. How does the x30 win in that arena? I hope it works for Fuji.

Fuji First look at the X100T

Hello. New guy here. The thing I like about the x100T is the effect it is having on the price of used x100 cameras. I just purchased one for less than half of new retail. Amazingly fun, and very unique in the quality of its output. I own an old M3 and cannot help but wish Fuji could somehow...

Nikon COOLPIX A - Initial Impressions

I purchased the Coolpix A, fretted, returned it, considered it again for about two weeks, purchased again. I know, it sounds idiotic......In fact, it is idiotic. However, I am now clear that it is a great camera and I have no regrets. Here were my initial regrets: 1. The V1 pricing...
