Very nice set of shots. That's a trip still on the bucket list. I appreciate the info about your travel kit setup. I often flip flop on taking a superzoom for convenience (need to get the shot because I'm not coming back again) versus a couple of cameras with quality lenses (need to get a...

Alaska Cruise - Glacier Bay and elsewhere

Very nice set of photos. As a Vancouverite, I've jumped on the Alaska cruise 3 times. Notwithstanding the tacky stores, I always find the Alaskans to be genuine people with remarkable tolerance given all of the tourists they have to put up with.

Stroll Colorful and textured stroll in North Vancouver

I took a bunch of manual lenses for a walk at the Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. In time, I may try to be more purposeful with my photos but for now I'm still working on improving my skills. Summer mellow (Rokkor 50mm macro) Flower pillows (Rokkor 50mm macro) Ravages of Rust (Contax...

    Stroll The unintended illusion

Thanks Tuukka, I had no idea there was a technical term for it. I merely posted for the fun of it cuz I think its cool too. Luke, you are absolutely right, much more prominent against a white background or after a beer or two :)

For me, the right side of the image looks shorter than the left side of the image. However, they are the same height, it is the converging lines playing tricks with your eyes.

    Stroll The unintended illusion

Whilst (I've always wanted to use that word) strolling in Vancouver's Yaletown area, I took this photo of the shadows on the wall. It wasn't until I was processing the photo that I noticed the unintended optical illusion.

GASoholics - what is your number??

GASoholics - what is your number??

Out of curiousity, I reviewed my LR metadata to see how many digital cameras (not including cameraphones or videocameras) I've owned since I started this "hobby". Holy cow ... 30!!! To soften the blow of the raw number, let's wax nostalgic with details and context. First digital camera: HP...

    Nature Show "Flowers"

Prickly purple. Shot with A7. The Contax 90mm is sharp ... these images are heavily cropped as the MFD of the lens is 100cm. I'm surprised that I can see the bee's wing detail. The Hexanon 40mm in the following shots is soft in a nice way :)

    Honolulu Photos - part 2

Thanks for the comments. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Honolulu. It was my first time there and most people told me they found it too crowded. I guess I must be a city boy so the crowds didn't bother me and if I wanted to get away to a less crowded beach or hike, it was only a 30 to 60...

    Suggestion to "Reaction to Photographs"

Over at dyxum.com, they have a regular panel of reviewers who rotate on some basis the duty of weekly gallery selection. I am not sure of their criteria for selection but it is likely weighted towards composition, creativity, and originality. They are serious non-compact users :) For the SC...

    Serious Monogamy :)

    Serious Monogamy :)

    Clever Photo Frames - "Thumbtiles"

Yup. Convenient and non-permanent. Because I'm taking more photos, I'd like an easy way to change them out. I also really like how it doesn't mark up the wall with nail holes so I can place them anywhere.

    Clever Photo Frames - "Thumbtiles"

Adobe's getting into the Touch Screen Apps: Photoshop Touch
