Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F shutter issue

To me they are comparable. My wife uses a GX7. The tiltable eye piece is a nice feature but personally I prefer the looks of the pen-f. I woudl say: follow your heart. There are some rumors a model will be launched soon. A friend got a good deal: a 25mm 1.8 lens for free with a penf plus 17mm 1.8.

Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F shutter issue

As far as I knoe there is no software solution yet so my best guess is that a software downgrade solves the problem. I haven't had the problem ever since I did that. I hope your PEN will work appropriately soon. It is a beautiful and capable camera! I am now in Scotland and love its versatility.

Urban Photo Race Amsterdam 2017 (image heavy)

Thought to share a set of images from Saturday's Urban Photo Race in Amsterdam. It was yet another inspiring event with more than 100 participants and nice weather. I'll share some impressions in various posts in this thread. First one, inspired by - but not as good as - Pete's cyclist photos:

    Urban Photo Race Rotterdam 2017

I was looking through "theme" eyes, which makes it very interesting to me (as said, never thought it would). You won't regret going to the UPR Amsterdam! If you decide to do so, let me know. It would be great to meet!

    Urban Photo Race Rotterdam 2017

It is a rather relaxed race although you have to be at a checkpoint between a specific time frame to qualify. A professional jury assesses and selects winning photos per theme.

    Fietserspad (Bikers path)

Yes, I did the whole thing. It is a trip I can highly recommend. The descriptions (see route.nl) for the north 2 south trip stay close to the Pieterpad which brings you to sandy roads and alike. I used the 7-day description from south to north for my trip from Venlo to Maastricht but that one...

    Fietserspad (Bikers path)

There is a famous walking path between the northern part of the country and the southern part of roughly 570km. It is called Pieterpad. For those who like to travel faster, a bikers path has been "constructed". I did that a little more than a week ago. It is just fantastic to drive with your...

    Urban Photo Race Rotterdam 2017

I participated in the first Urban Photo Race in Rotterdam. I did not have a clue what to expect and wasn't really prepared (forgot to bring a notebook and chargers (as you have to use your phone to navigate)). It is really a fun activity that challenges your creativity! You get six themes and...

Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F shutter issue

Thank you!! That is very helpful. Apparently I did not use the right settings. I already thought it had something to do with the firmware upgrade. I downgraded to 1.1 and everything seems to work fine again. Time will tell. I also read about the LCD turned inwards and that is indeed my preferred...

Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F shutter issue

I really like my PEN-F that I bought a few months ago. However, I do have a serious issue. The shutter "locks" in a random manner. At first, I thought it had to do with the 25mm 1.2 lens. However, last week I experienced the same issue with the 17mm mounted last week during a trip. What...

    Agadir - Marocco

Regarding souk: Good reason to go back, Bart. I found the souk fascinating. Perhaps it is true that when you've seen one you've seen them all, but I found it fascinating. Too bad we only had little time. I get your point about watering. The same thing crossed my mind. Then I realized that...

    Agadir - Marocco

I’ve recently made a trip to Agadir, Marocco with a group of friends. Not for photogrpaphy but for golf. It was a wonderful trip. And a wonderful golf resort. Almost no time for photography. Nevertheless, I was able to get a few snaps. An impression: Souk (the biggest in Africa!)...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F

Thank you. The XT10 was another option for me. I am not sure if MFT will bring addt'l benefits. To me, the availability of the Focus Bracketing (sadly, not the focus stacking) function was the key factor. I also liked the 'looks' of the PEN-F better. If not for my watch photography, I would...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F

Thank you. I noticed that as well. The images I saw did not really help me get an idea. Especially with the grip attached to the camera. So I took and included some shots. I am glad it was helpful.

    Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F

Thank you. Yeah, for web they look fine unless you start to look into the details. Then they do not hold up against the D810 with 60mm and (especially) 85mm PC-E lens. But I do not mind. This is more than enough. Next steps will be using the 17mm and 60mm Olympus lenses.

    Micro 4/3 Olympus PEN-F

I am using the Olympus PEN-F for approximately 2 weeks now and thought to share some impressions from a usage perspective. Let me start with a moonshot: Insane! I used the Nikon 300mm PF lens with 1.4X teleconverter, giving me a reach of 840mm. The PEN-F has a Digital 2x TC function. So you...

    seeking gear advice...

I went back to the camera store to check. The PEN-F does NOT have the focus stacking feature. Only focus bracketing. So in post-processing you have to stack the images yourself. Usually this is fine (perhaps even the best approach) but in my case it is a disappointment. If I have to send a photo...

    seeking gear advice...

One question leads to another. I see conflicting messages about the focus stacking feature of the PEN-F. One article says it has the same feature as the M1 Mark II (with firmware v4) and another says it only has the focus bracketing functionnwhile the M1.2 has both. Do you know if the PEN-F has...

I pulled the trigger and purchased the Olympus PEN-F with Olympus 17mm 1.8 and Panasonic 30mm 2.8 macro lenses. I was curious about the out-of-the-box auto performance. Halong Bay- Vietnam

Halong Bay must be spectacular when there is no wind, there are no ships, and some fog. Then it becomes out-of-this-world with its green colors. Another movie will be shot there soon. If I heard it correctly, they hired all ships during the shoot. Probably to keep them away from the area during...

    Ho Chi Minh - Vietnam

Thank you for your kind words. I thought about cropping but decided against it to retain the context but I should have cropped it. Here is the result (I tried 4:3 and closer but thought this one worked the best because it also shows the shoes): I am so amazed by the importance of scooters in...

    seeking gear advice...

BTW: I am also seriously tempted by the E-M1.2 with 12-40 2.8 lens. The type of macro shots with that lens do meet my needs. The 12-40 lens looks a bit big for the PEN-F.

    seeking gear advice...

Thanks for your thoughts and advice! I am eying the PEN-F with 17mm 1.8 and 30mm 3.5 macro. I may get a nice deal on that set. Despite the lack of 2 card slots, slower AF, no WR I like the design and size. The combination of focus bracketing and camera stabilization makes me prefer this combo...

Sony RX1R II yes or no?

Thanks Ray, that is very helpful. Your experience and writing helped me reach a conclusion: I decided to let the opportunity pass. I do not need the 42MP for my intended use. Sony RX1R II yes or no?

This is more or less a follow-up on my 'seeking gear advice' question ... I just found out that I can get a brand new Sony RX1R II for 2600 euros ex VAT (tax is deductable). I admit that is really, really tempting although I will be giving up on DoF (I was focusing on a smaller sensor camera to...

I will look into that. Thank you!! Regarding the GR II. I know people love it but the lack of a viewfinder is a no-go for me. Regarding the Sony Axxxx: I know it's a very personal thing but I do not like the design of that camera at all.
