The thing that both the A7/r and a6000 lack is a leaf shutter. By itself, the leaf shutter sync speed sets the RX1 as being completely unique, and for me, irreplaceable at the moment. That said, I also have a nice dslr system for the times that I need other focal lengths.

Well, that's incredibly stupid. Got on Sony online customer support, and apparently for Sony, rear-sync is TTL dependent. They consider it an 'automatic' feature. So, for anyone that is ever interested in using this, just know that there is absolutely no way to do so without Sony speedlights. Ugh.

I know I asked this a month or two ago when I first got my RX1, but has anyone been able to get this to work? I'll set it in the flash drive mode I can only get it to work with the built-in flash. As far as I'm aware, rear-sync doesn't require any TTL communication, and is literally the camera...

I've been using PocketWizard Plus 3's reliably at 1/1250" with Canon 600EX-RTs! I've still yet to try using any Sony flashes with the built-in wireless triggering to see if you can go any faster, but I'd sure love to.

Yeah, I'd probably agree. Any wider than 21 and I feel like it would be in rental territory. When I had my Tokina 11-16, I tended to use it near 14/15/16mm more often than the 11 side of things, so I feel this would really hit the sweet spot for me! But we'll have to see where the journey takes...

It is a Canon 600EX, handheld, triggered through a Canon OC-E3 cable. No wireless right now, and I can't get it to work in any fun ways other than straight sync up to 1/4000" at f5.6... not to say that isn't super cool!

Got REALLY CLOSE.... :) haha! Actually, I just used a single speedlight (camera right and up) through a rogue flashbender w/diffusion panel. Then just made a couple of really slight adjustments in LR5! Nothing crazy!

It's just the basic 3ft coiled canon TTL flash cable. It only transfers the trigger, I havent been able to get it to do any more than basic flash triggering, but I'm trying to figure out more.

I'm using a Canon 600EX in the hotshoe and with an off-camera cable. It only transfers trigger data, I haven't been able to get it to trigger rear-sync or wireless yet though. I think some others have had better luck in that department, but I'm experimenting. I'm definitely working to narrow...

I use a Wotancraft City Explorer 'Ranger' with my RX1, 5D3, Zeiss 28/50/100 f/2s, a speedlight and a few accessories. The insert is 99.99% waterproof and the bag is incredible. A little heavy, but protects the gear incredibly well and looks super nice :D.

The built-in flash doesn't swivel up like the RX100, unfortunately. I haven't tried triggering external flashes at all (i only have canon ones), I'll experiment with that today. I do know that the HVL-F20M will work to trigger sony flashes in up to 3 groups though.

Agreed. There are batteries and chargers recommended on Steve Huff's page - bought the charger and 3 batteries for the price of one sony battery. They all work perfectly.

Yeah, I'm currently using the canon off-camera cable (short coiled one) with the hotshoe. I havent spent much time trying to get things to trigger via onboard flash. I cannot get the ST-E3-RT to trigger the 600ex's (expected to not work). It works, all the way up to 1/4000" at f4 and above, but...

It also has 60fps at 1080p, and video AF. Pretty slick :) Really excited for the NEX FF. I may actually get rid of my 5D setup if the NEXFF ends up being good, the tiny RX1 has blown my mind haha

It does have 24fps video. But not the 50mm :/. I'd really like an 85 or 100mm version, OR a id be willing to spend the extra money on a vario version.. like, 28/50/100 or something like that, as long as it was as good of quality as the lens is on there right now.

For that shot? 1/2000 I think. I've shot a few at 1/4000 as well. I loooooooooooooove the leaf shutter. Makes a speedlight feel so much more powerful than it is!

Nothing huh? Other than the small footprint and overall image quality, the leaf-shutter sync speeds were the #1 selling point here for me... Figured someone else would be experimenting with flashes!

Beautiful. There is something to be said about the magic of painting with continuous lights. Flash is a wonderful thing though, btw, and if you want any help with it, I'd be more than happy to give you a few tips (from my relatively limited knowledge!)
