    Canon G1 X slow?

I bought my G1X for landscapes, not people or moving image shots. That said, I do a lot of low light, no flash, live music shoots. The camera is a tad slow, but considering the image quality, I'm not fussed. If I wanted to shoot a wedding, I'd be lugging my 5dmk2 with the sweet EF 24-70mm f/2.8L...

    Watermarking Photos on Internet

I use the GIMP to set up the transparency and bulk edit in Lightroom - images go online as watermarked tiny jpgs (except for this site LOL). There's also another little program around called uMark (Free Watermark Software - uMark) but I don't know how it works - it's a Win download. Google free...

    Nature Show Landscape

Right. I finally downloaded Adobe DNG so I could read the RAW files from my new G1X - and then I decided to have a play with the scenes I shot yesterday. This one is slightly different from the previous upload - still a big crop into the middle of an even bigger photo - played with the levels...

My old boy Printz was so terrified of birds that one day, I heard this frantic scrabbling and maiowing at the back door and there he was, all ten kilos of him, trying to scratch the door down... Why? On the verandah rails were a dozen or so sparrows... Such a brave wee beastie LOL...

Nic - Tigger is a Maine Coon cross and his mane comes in full like this in winter. He's only two and a bit and still hasn't got his full growth or coat yet! I call him my little Lion Man although he's a Tigger LOL - and he only sat that still because there was a noise outside - the other shots...

How do you decide on pricing, when you sell?

I've been selling on ebay for over twelve years and I've never once had an issue with a pickup. Delivery yes, because Aus Post will not do a fragile service and do not treat parcels gently. I've used a courier service before with cameras (I had a lot of film cameras at one stage I sold through...

How do you decide on pricing, when you sell?

I just had a look at the Nikon 1 range here : Bildqualität | Testberichte | dkamera.de | Das Digitalkamera-Magazin - which is where I screen test all my cameras before I buy them because they have such a brilliant comparison tool. It still doesn't stack up to the G1X, which is performing...

How do you decide on pricing, when you sell?

Sue - like you I can't bear to get rid of my gear, even if I know the camera is not stacking up to my expectations. Gear remorse LOL. But if I have to sell it on to fund my next purchase (which I do do occasionally) I will check out prices on ebay australia and whirlpool forums and here and a...

    Canon The Canon G1X Experience

Nic - help me out if you can. I'm finding an issue with image sharpness. Now I know that the digitals do need a smidge of sharpening from the primary image, but it seems the more I shoot with this camera the less sharp the images are in the camera... Does that make sense? I went out today with...

    Has the Bubble Burst?

Although camera sales may appear to have 'fallen off' in the US - there's no indication of that here in Aus. I do think that most people are looking to their phones though, so it would be interesting to do a comparison between the higher end smart phone sales and the comparative camera sales...

Travel: How many memory cards do you carry?

I took over 8,000 photos in a month on my trip. But I did a photo documentary, basically because I doubt I'll ever be able to go back to all the countries and places I visited. So I literally shot every couple of minutes, with whatever camera I had to hand. The photos aren't for everyone but...

Travel: How many memory cards do you carry?

I travel with 3xCFC (20GB) for the DSLR, 2xSD Xtreme (16B)for the G1X, 4x16GB Sandisk thumb drives, my EEEPC mini laptop (which has a terabyte HDD), a charge cable and a card reader and at least a spare battery for each camera. And I back up everyday. I'm a bit OCD about it. And I don't edit...

Wow! Dennis! That's pretty cool - I love the 'tank' description :D I think that's what I love about this camera too - it's solidity... Must try the slow shutter speeds... Sue - not a bad idea! Canon Newbie with New G1X

Hi Sue - thank you. I think I was just having an off day LOL The VF is an issue. But I think I can work around that. Although I am very used to using the VF solely for shooting as my 20D has no live view, I'm thinking that this is just another set of barriers to work around - the camera is...
