    Sony Sony RX1 firmware update

If anyone from SONY is watching - please release a firmware update with improved AF. I love my RX1 but the AF needs improvement!

Sony Westcott Icelight an excellent RX1 partner

After trying numerous strobe solutions that didn't inspire me I decided to try the icelight and am glad I did. The results are outstanding and the combination make a nice lightweight kit. http://fjwestcott.com/product/the-ice-light

    Sony RX1r vs A7r

If they can deliver a fast 85 with IQ as good or better than the RX1 fixed 35 it will be a very attractive proposition. An Alpha 7r and fast portrait lens would partner very well with the RX1 and make a nice lightweight two camera kit.

    Sony RX1r vs A7r

I initially thought I'd sell my RX1 to buy an A7 but in the end have decided against it because of the glass. The biggest problem for the new Alpha compacts is that there are too few lenses and the RX1 35mm Zeiss is going to be very very hard to beat. Maybe in a year if they release a few high...

Sony Has Sony gone and done it again?

For those of you who haven't heard Sony has announced a new compact full frame interchangable lens camera based on the RX1. The new A7 and A7R cameras address most of our complaints about the RX1. It has a built in EVF, is weather sealed, has a tilting screen, has a new grip, a bigger battery...

Sony What I Don't Like About the RX1

Aside from my minor complaint, metering can be a tricky art in itself. Consider the difference between incident and reflective metering on the same subject in the same light and this becomes immediately obvious. Then it becomes a point of training your eye to sense the best look. I find...

Sony Farewell my RX1 friends...it's been fun.

Wow, didn't expect that. Happy shooting! Cheers, Rob

Sony What I Don't Like About the RX1

I really can't find much wrong with the RX1 that I didn't know would be a compromise going in. One thing I have been noticing that surprised me is a consistent 1 to 1 1/3 stop underexposure. I did some tests with a external meter shooting the same subject with fixed lighting in manual mode on...

Sony Got a few things for the RX1

I just picked up a RRS tripod head to go with the grip. This is very high quality equipment, I'm very impressed with it. The RRS grip is excellent but I still prefer my thumbs up for size, weight and comfort. Now if only someone could design and market a Sony Multi-Interface shoot-through...

Sony Made a command decision today: I'm not going to try and turn the RX1 into something it's not.

I played with an x100s for a while today and am very impressed with it. It feels and shoots better than the RX1 and IQ is very good. The x100s doesn't produce that magical Zeiss look I love, but easily produces frame and mount worthy prints nonetheless. I'm considering picking up an x100s for...

Sony Made a command decision today: I'm not going to try and turn the RX1 into something it's not.

Nothing wrong with having choices, heck that's what living in the free world is all about. I'm considering the same thing; sometimes there are things that matter more than IQ. My RX1 is my go to for when a full size rig is too heavy/bulky and IQ is my priority (which lately is almost always)...

Sony Blacked out 'Sony' logo on my RX1 - what does this say about me...or Sony?

I thought I was the only person who does this. Nice to see that there are others who value discretion.

    Sony RX1 - the camera I don't need.

Good point ...but did it have to depreciate so fast? I got a 70% return on my 5D mk II after 4 years use.

    Agreed. I could cry.

Sony Alternative viewfinder for RX1 and focusing method

Agreed! That said though, for people with pockets much deeper than mine, the new Leica M does provide exactly that. Until I win the lottery (or Leica drops the price) my RX1 is more than good enough. Correction: If Steve Huff is to be believed (and I do), with a comparable lens the RX1...

Sony Upholstered my grip; better handling. :)

Hmm... I've been thinking about doing that with my RRS grip. The feel of metal while premium is a tad slick and come winter I expect it will get freeze to skin cold too (not that I go around licking cameras). Looking at 3M adhesive step anti-slip tape or maybe custom cut a Zagg iPhone adhesive...

Sony RX1 - Clear Image Zoom - results

It's good for quick results but you'll get better results if you incident meter externally, shoot in RAW and crop in post. Have fun, good luck.

Sony final word on flashing external from Sony....not good.

Hi rpavich, You and I have discussed this elsewhere, thanks again for the tip. For the benefit of other SC readers, you had suggested flash triggering with flash comp turned way down. Flash zebra sells an inexpensive alpha shoe flash trigger. It's not ideal but does the job reasonably well...

    Sony RX1 - the camera I don't need.

Well put! It's not my favourite focal length either, but I'm using it because I really like the look I can make with it. I'd love Sony to make one with an 85mm f/1.4 to partner with it, kinda like Sigma is doing with their Merrill lineup.

Sony Got a few things for the RX1

This is a camera that's fun to dress up. I started off with a gordy strap, thumbs up grip, bug soft release and Zeiss OVF; then tried the Sony EVF with a RRS grip. This setup basically gives me two different cameras. The OVF setup is for street shooting and the EVF setup is for everything...

    Sony A thanks to Ray....re: focus...sharpness

Some of the most boring snapshots I ever saw were razor sharp and perfectly exposed. Though the geek in me enjoys technical talk, it's refreshing to read about people just enjoying the art. I'm a newbie here at serious compacts and am enjoying reading your posts/replies. Cheers!

Sony I'm almost sold on the RX1..........

I sold my whole Canon kit including a 5D mkII, a bunch of L glass and some strobes to get the RX1 (and a VW Golf) and couldn't be happier. If you haven't already sold it, maybe keep both? The value of the Fuji isn't so great that you'd notice the difference over time and then you'd have a...
