Looking south towards Mt. Shasta (in California) from the mountainous border with Oregon. This ultra-tiny kit lens has been maligned for softness or less-than-optimal optical quality, but in my (admittedly limited) experience with it, it is surprising me, in good ways. Cross-posted in the...

A little later, on the same walk, saw a bushtit gathering moss and twigs to build its nest-- It was an industrious little bird-- I think I could have watched it all day long. But then it flew away and disappeared and I never saw the nest-in-progress.

After some hemming and hawing I finally acquired what I hope will be the 'right' zoom lens for my E-M5.iii - but I also should probably express my thanks to John (@John King) who for some time has been proselytizing the virtues of the tiny 14-42mm EZ 'pancake' Zuiko. It feels (and looks) like a...

After a lifetime of never having owned one... I finally bought my first Nikon! But it's not a camera. These are older Nikon binoculars, very bright and clear with a wide field of view. Supposedly good for nighttime gazing up at the stars - or birdwatching in more dense woodlands, where a...
