Oh, it doesn't spoil the original for me. That still stands on its own, fortunately. But sort of like like seeing Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico done up in festive pastel colors, or a Disney-on-Ice version of The Godfather, it does sort of leave me shaking my head at their cluelessness.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that Picasa is attempting to display a 5120x5120 pixel image at 900x990 dots per inch on your screen. So while the pixel dimension of your crop is actually 5120x5120 pixels all along, Picasa is displaying (or attempting to—most monitors display resolutions of...

Having never used it, I have no idea what Picasa does to an image. But if you're really taking a 900x900 pixel crop of an image, and once imported into Picasa it somehow becomes a 5120x5120 pixel image, then that image must be undergoing one heck of a lot of interpolation, and therefore degradation.

"In theory," yes. But I'd resize it in Photoshop to the correct dimensions and dpi first, and then place it in Illustrator. That way there'd be no doubt about it.

Who knows why they do it? But bottom line: it doesn't matter. Dpi is only relevant when you go to print an image. For everything else, all that really matters is total pixel dimension. So a file that comes out of your camera at, say 6000 x 4000 pixels will stay at those dimensions no matter...

Sorry Amin, but I've just checked in for the first time today, and it's back to being slow. I had no problems all day yesterday, but obviously whatever fix you implemented didn't permanently fix the problem for me. One possible clue: I only tried this once, but the day before, when I surfed to...

I'd love to have a clip-on lens for my iPhone 6+, just to extend its focal-length range. But any lens mount that requires me to remove my case and/or substitute another, or glue something onto the phone itself is a deal-breaker for me. I keep waiting for someone to come up with a lens option...

It was fine earlier. But right now it takes about a minute to load a page when I click on a thread link. Both here and over at TalkEmount. Everywhere else I go on the web loads quickly. This server is the only one giving me problems. The strange thing is that the front pages load quickly at all...

And now it's fast again. I swear, is anyone else experiencing this? This has been going on since Saturday for me. Sometimes the forums are normal, and sometimes clicking on a link takes a whole minute for the page to load. It just seems to have no discernible pattern at all.

It's baaaaaaaack! Clicking on links again loads them only after about a minute. I wish I could give you more clues, Amin. But it seems to be almost random. For a while, everything is zippy. And then, when I check in later, things grind almost to a stop. I can't find any pattern to the slowdown.

...Aaaaaaaand now we seem to be good again. 'Round and 'round we go...

OK, it just did again. It slowed down to a crawl.

Whatever you just did, that fixed it. At least for now. As I mentioned earlier, throughout the weekend it was fast, and then it would slow down again.
