    Collecting Photography Books

I wouldn't class myself as a "collector" per se, but I do have quite a few photography books ranging from howtos to monographs. Last week I bought two - Richard Heeps' Man's Ruin and Joel Sternfeld's First Pictures. I've got a few anthologies/retrospectives by Bresson, Parr, Leibowitz, Noton...

    Got a new Serious Compact!

You have to admire the chutzpah of someone who plans to cycle daily in Scotland  Bromptons are cool; but not as cool as as a fixie. The trouble with fixies though is that you'd have to revert to shooting Holgas and Lomos - and only Holgas and Lomos - for the full Hipster look. And you...

How many have had camera failures?

Whatever we may think, early adopters are beta-testers who are not only willing but actually pay for the privilege. After a while, the niggles get back to HQ and a firmware update is made available (except if you're Fuji). I had a retractable lens jam a few times on a Ricoh Caplio R6 but a bit...

Taking my new G2 out for a spin around York

Thanks Jock - all these shots are straight out of the camera, Dynamic B&W jpeg setting. The phonebooth was in shade and the Minster (Cathedral) was in bright sunlight; I exposed for the interior of the booth and the available light did all my post-processing for me. As to the bendy Minster, you...

Taking my new G2 out for a spin around York

Thanks. I agree about the adapted lenses - I've got a bit of a collection from my film days and friends unloading unwanted kit on me :2thumbs: As to the Fisheye it's something to play with - there'll be better uses for it. On the other hand, there are already a million-and-one images of York...

Taking my new G2 out for a spin around York

That's the 14-45, generally felt to be far superior to the newer 14-42. And I've just bought a used 14-45 on Amazon - should get it Tuesday. I'll sell the kit lens. An adapted Canon FD 50/1.8 and CV 25/4 Snapshot Skopar are performing well at the moment. The Jupiter-8 50/2 (bought 5 years ago...

Taking my new G2 out for a spin around York

I picked up the G2 with a 14-42 kit zoom for 295 GBP. My original intention was to buy adapters for my legacy MF glass, which I've done, but the results from Wifey's Lumix lenses I've used are so much better than even good-but-old fast glass that I'm actually now going to build up a travel kit...

I'd SO buy this! A Canon mirrorless full frame imagined.

It is interesting - I still have a couple of (no longer used but working) film rangefinders and traded in an almost complete Contax G2 kit for my D300 4 years ago. I now find myself with a Panny G2 building an RF-like kit again (28mm - 50mm - 90mm EFL primes). I just need someone to produce...
