Leica Leica M9 vs M240 Resolution Comparison @ lens rentals

HI There I didn't understand it like that - I assumed he was looking at the pixel per pixel sharpness, not the image as a whole. Could be wrong though! As far as I can see, the cameras do resolve about the same for the same number of pixels - which means that the 24/18 ratio relates also to the...

    Sony Sony NEX-7

Tragic isn't it - that new panasonic 14-42 pancake shows what can be done - I'm not sure that I'll be able to resist, but I'd really like it to have some decent compact lenses to go with it.

Sony Announces NEX-7, NEX 5N, and three new E Mount Lenses

Hi Ray Interesting post - and pretty much a reflection of my thoughts. But if you start thinking of the Nex7 as a 24mp digital back with an excellent sensor which will take pretty much every lens ever made . . . an with some of them will fit in your pocket - suddenly it sounds much more...

Micro 4/3 Falling in love Again

Excellent Lili it's a fine combination I guess . . . . I have to guess, as I don't have an Epl1 - but I usually use my ep3 with the VF2 and the 14-150 zoom - and it's excellent (and so are the out of camera jpgs). all the best

    Apple Aperture

Hi Heather you can either say 'new version from master' - which means that you've started from scratch again . . . . or you can say 'duplicate version' in which case you're using your current version as a jumping off point. What I would normally do is to make basic exposure levels adjustments...

Micro 4/3 The Olympus 12mm f/2 lens - looking impressive!

Hi there Well, it's a missing focal length, and very popular with landscape shooters - a 25 would simply compete with the Panaleica lens, there is already a decent 35 whereas this really is something different. It may not be up everybody's street, but it's definitely the lens which has brought...

Sony Leaked Images of Upcoming Sony NEX Lenses Surface in DPReview Forums

Hmmm. Well, the difference in size between APS/c and 4/3 really isn't very big (much smaller than the difference between APS/c and full frame). I think I agree that the m4/3 consortium have rather under performed with sensors, but referring to the 4/3 sensor as 'tiny' compared with APS/c is . ...

Sony Leaked Images of Upcoming Sony NEX Lenses Surface in DPReview Forums

I'm with Pelao and Ray here - the NEX 7 looks completely fab . . . but those lens sizes spoil it for me - I actually really like Sony (have the A900 the A55 and too many lenses) - I'll almost certainly go for the A77, but I've fallen in love with the little EP3 and m4/3 lenses which are...

    Apple Aperture

Hah - but surely not here Ray - everyone is so pleasant. I do understand some people's liking of shooting jpg (space, transmitting files etc.). Actually, I'm shooting jpg (+raw) with the EP3 at the moment, it's good for getting one to sharpen up on exposure! I can't wait for Apple to come up...

    Apple Aperture

Ray's explanation is excellent . . . I could put it more straightforwardly though: If you are going to use Aperture there are no real disadvantages to shooting RAW - but there are lots of disadvantages shooting jpg. So - just shoot RAW, know that you are doing the right thing and forget about...

    Apple Aperture

HI John I hate to contradict you, but that isn't quite what Aperture does. It doesn't make a duplicate of the file, all the changes you made are logged in the database of the Aperture library - when you look at the file next time these changes are applied. You can make a number of different...

Micro 4/3 Got my E-P3 today!

I think it is as well Of course, I always check new wides with a brick wall test at different apertures. This one isn't terribly serious, but it's at f2 there's certainly nothing wrong with the corners (slightly too much contrast - it's a jpg) :clapping:

Well - I did have a bit of fun . . . . but :crying: I think it's going to have to go back. It all works fab - and the touch focus/shoot is excellent . . . . but when I connect the VF2, it all works for a few seconds, then the dials and buttons on the back don't work any more - switching back...

Micro 4/3 Got my E-P3 today!

HI Matey Only with Olympus - only with Olympus. to be honest, it's the 20 f2 which has really swung it - don't need the f2, but I would like a quality lens for landscapes in a small package, and this seems like it might just be it. We'll see!

Epicurus and the gear acquisition syndrome

:dance3: Ah the trouble with GAS is that somehow it always builds up when you aren't noticing. I've just given in to it myself - I'm looking forwards to the E-P3 . . . and have it on order, but I kind of know that I'll be wanting a NEX 7 when it comes. The good bit is that with careful...

Olympus Announces Three New Pen Cameras and Two New Lenses

Well, as far as I'm concerned a plug in EVF is fine . . . as long as it's a good plug in EVF, and that the camera is smaller as a result of not having it built in. It has the added benefit that over a couple of bodies (and an ZX-1) you can have one EVF and a bunch of saved space. Worth...

Fuji Fuji to build an interchangeable lens X100 model.

HI There I think that a hybrid viewfinder for a non interchangeable fixed focal length lens camera is a completely different issue from a hybrid viewfinder for interchangeable or zoom lenses. But perhaps it isn't just from the possible to the impossible, but more to the point I suspect it would...

Micro 4/3 Photos of new PEN E-P3

Well, I quite agree with you about the comparison. On the other hand, if it really needs lots of tests across a range of lenses and settings, and using a common raw converter . . . . . . . . then the difference is not going to be big enough to as important as the colour and ergonomics issues...

Micro 4/3 Photos of new PEN E-P3

Well - It'll be interesting to see if it's built in or 'fixed', and if it's fixed, whether it's in a bump like the G3, or like the X100. If it's like the X100 that's fine . . . except it's supposed to be 3million dots (that's twice as many as the X100). The Olympus VF-2 plug in seems to be okay...

Micro 4/3 Photos of new PEN E-P3

Hi There Sony Rumour site I only got the information from here - they say it'll be late August, but I think that's the announcement, still, Sony don't usually hang about that long, so I'd guess October or so. As for the look of the Pen against the M9p . . . . not a chance! But I'm not...

Micro 4/3 Tell me about Olympus E-PL2, and if worth it over the E-PL1

Hi Lili - as your most dedicated follower . . . . I have now bought myself an E-PL2 to go with my XZ-1, together with the 14-150 lens, which is, indeed, quick and silent. I've no idea how an E-PL2 compares with an E-PL1, but it's certainly an improvement on an EP-1 with the original firmware...
