I think it would be vry difficult. Focus peaking isn't using two images, like a rangefinder, just contrast detect. And the current M has focus peaking. Gordon

    Leica Leica T Announced

I wonder if the lenses are made in the same place as the S series lenses. If they are they would be in another league. I mean, I love my 55mm SOny Ziess and my M mount lenses. But I've shot with a S2 and those lenses are the most perfect things I've ever shot with. As someone who has left the...

    News Leica mirrorless camera

If its an xvario with interchangeable lenses I'm gone. And I don't need another camera. It's already taken everything I have to resist that one. To me, an APSC M mount makes sense. You can add the AF stuff and still take mf lenses without an adaptor. They can always patent the AF bits. I don't...

Suggestions on using a handheld off-camera flash ....

You can always fix the focus and move yourself. That's what we were taught tp do at events in the MF film days. You'll get an idea of where to set focus distance pretty well aftr some practice. Especally easy with a rangefinder. Stand in about the right spot and just rock foward or backward to...

Sony Lens Comp app from Sony (A7)

I do like the M9 sensor and rangefinder focusing. So I don't know, yet, if I'll give them up completely. I may keep an M9 as a personal camera. Or I might sell both and get a 240. But aljough I'm sure about it being a better camera than the M9, I don't know if I'll like the look as much. It's a...

Sony Lens Comp app from Sony (A7)

I don't profess to be the perfect role model for camera selection. The A7s work for me. 1. I couldn't care less about the shutter. It's not as loud as an M9. 2. I've been carrying four cameras (2 M9s and 2 m43). Now I carry two. Both use the same batteries and flash system. Even the a99...

Sony Lens Comp app from Sony (A7)

Two A7s and an A7r. A7s for working cameras. A7r for play. Went to buy the 70-400 as I get the LAEA4 for free and I don't see Sony making a FE version and walked out with the 135 as well (to "replace" my Oly 75.) Then got a a99 to get IBIS. See? Completely logical...... Gordon

Sony Lens Comp app from Sony (A7)

No worries. I use a single shot for each aperture for my 12mm, 21mm and 50mm CV lenses. Once that's done it's a doodle to make a corrected DNG file. I'm having the opposite experience. I've now got three of them AND an a99 (I blame that squarely on the EM1 and its IBIS, plus I may have...

picked up a 24-70 f4 AND a 70-400 GII (couldn't help myself). If I get a 35, which I will, eventually, I'll have the set. So far (after two hours) I'm very impressed with both. Had to micro adjust the 70-400 on both my a7 and a7r. Now it's spot on with both cameras. Nothing but indoor tests but...

Sony next Sony FE lenses for A7(R)

The A7 isn't bad by any means. But the EM1 is better. I think the IBIS is worth more than two stops. And the Olympus is still a better and more confident focuser in low light. At the last wedding I did some stuff with the A7 and a 135APO Leica. Worked fine. Just not what I'm getting more easily...

Sony next Sony FE lenses for A7(R)

Yep and Yep. Would love the fast prime to be an 85 or 135. Even considering a 70-400 alpha lens for a long. In chapels I tend to use primes. Even 2.8 is too slow. That's one of the significany advantages ofthe EM1. More DOF with IBIS andd the 75mm. Yummy. Haven't decied if tthe Sony can...

Sony next Sony FE lenses for A7(R)

Well this wedding photographer shot with a Canon 70-200 F4LIS for years and would never consider the 2.8 (which was replaced by the f4). If you're also carrying a 55mm 1.8 and an 85mm 1.2/8 the a F4 zoom is fine. I'm a prime shooter who needs a zoom occasionally. A F4 zoom is ideal. And they're...

Apple Uploading from iPad to Lightroom

BB, what are you actually trying to do? Photosmith is great if you want to sort, rate, keyword or tag images in a way that Lightroom can read. If all you want to do is get the images you've got on the iPad off it on to a PC or Mac you don't need anything but the USB cable. Gordon

LR 5 seems worth the upgrade. How's it's performance vs. LR4?

Photoshop is no longer the only software that opens multi layered PSD files. There's no issue here except scare mongering, so don't worry. Plus you had far more chance of Adobe going under with the old model. Gordon

what is causing this my 'banding' problem?

dropbox is a free online storage service with a premium paid service on top of that. You set up an account and then get a couple of GB free storage and, as an option, pay a bit for more space if you need it. There's a public folder you can post a link to that we can then download from...

what is causing this my 'banding' problem?

Put one up on dropbox. I'll load it into LR and Aperture and Irident and C1. My system is fully calibrated. It'll take me maybe 5 seconds to tell you if it's the file or not. Gordon

Sony The Sony FE 1.8/55 outperforms them all except for one

Leica Some Thoughts About the Sony A7R as a Leica M Replacement

Im using an A7 (not R) and I'm having few if any real issues with the wide lenses I own, when comparing them to the M9. Both my 12mm 5.6 and 21mm 1.8 CV lenses are better on the A7 than they are uncoded on the M9. If I apply a code the 12mm is somewhat better and the 21mm has less vignetting...

Sony Sony A7/A7r firmware update wish list.

They're not firmware. They're add on features. But still a rip off if you ask me. As for firmware: 1. A rewrite or the playback behaviour. I'd like to see the zoom in/out behaviuor moved to the rear wheel and the dial for swit hing between images. 2. 1 push focus magnification option. 3...

    Sony A7r or Leica M9 with m-Lenses

Manual exposure is static. Shutter, aperture and ISO are locked until you change them. The exposure comp dial does nothing in manual. Aperture or shutter priority are dynamic. One is locked but the other changes with the guide of the camera meter. If you are in changing light it's really handy...

Well that's plainly not true. Both my M9's have had sensor replacements. Both went to Germany (the latest came back late October). Today I was told my 90mm Summarit needs to go to Germany for re-calibration (after sitting at CC for nearly 5 weeks??) because for some reason they can't do it...

Great Article. Do you think it's the film though? What if it were an M8 and a 35mm Voigtlander?
