We are all shocked at what is unfolding in Paris. People killed at a concert, a soccer match, at restaurants....just cut down without mercy.

I was last there in 2005. To me, Paris will always be associated with romance, the arts, pavement cafes, architecture.

The people of France will rise above this, as we did in London and as Americans did after 9/11. We will never forget. But, time will heal.

My trip in 2005 was before I became interested in Photography. I had a Canon Ixus with a 5mb card. I am surprised at how these came out. I dug them out and show them here so we can see Paris as it was........and as it will always be (even after these terrible events).

May I suggest that we keep this thread focussed upon expressions of condolence and sympathy. Please remember that this is not the place for political or religious debate or statements, speculations, advice or recriminations. Peter's images speak of happier and less turbulent times; if you have your own images of Paris at peace, perhaps sharing them here is a good way to contribute, and express yourself at this tragic time, but please keep it calm. Thank you.

My thoughts today are with the survivors and my condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones.

Spent much of the morning feeling like crap....a mixture of disbelief and despair, the sort that you only feel when you watch on as humanity conspires to do something so utterly stupid and cruel to itself.

I decided to do something about these feelings, to smother all this negativity, so I opened up some of my old snapshots take in Paris 11 years ago with a $90 pocket camera and to put together this collage of memories....to reminisce being a younger man backpacking around Europe for a year, to making new friends, to drinking dancing and laughing - often until the sun came up...and to falling in love with a beautiful girl. This is 'my' Paris.

I hope everyone here who has been lucky enough to visit the city is able to remember it in this way too.

I don't want to make any "political" or agenda statements, but my sympathies go way beyond the unfortunate victims to future victims, to say that all of us across the world should pause for a moment and think about some healing that we can effect to change our direction, so this isn't repeated.

A happy moment in Paris. Out of respect to the victims and as a protest to terrorism and extremism.

you should be able to figure it out...
No photos of Paris from the one time I was there 34 years ago. But my deepest sorrow for those who went through it, the families of those who died, and the living who will be scarred by the experience for the rest of their lives. I'm not sure if there's a solution to this global mess we find ourselves in, at least a solution that won't be worse than the problem. I hope for the return of some level of sanity, somehow, some time. But I've never been an optimist about the state of the world and this doesn't seem like a time to start... Oddly, in my own personal life, I've always been quite an optimist - I can't quite square that one...

Even those who've never visited feel they 'know' Paris. It is a universal city and a great sadness.

i have extra bond to Paris. My first visit outside Nordic countries was to Paris. And ever after I return to this city. My two kids are in French School and they speak perfectly French. Nowadays I enjoy Paris (and France) even more when I have my private translators with me.

This is from my first visit in 1981, sorry about the bad scan

So you can only imagine my sorrow and tears when I read from the news what was happening in "my city". I just noticed it before going to bed, and at that night I didn't go to bed at all then.

But people of Paris will survive, someone here said that we will overcome and heal, but we'll not forget.
