What, you mean... people are buying it???
It's difficult to imagine who but current Nikon 1 users would buy the V3 for that price, when more flexible gear can be had for the same money. The Panasonic GM1 is quite a bargain, considering the image quality is at least equal to the EM-5 and GH3, has a larger sensor, and takes the whole range of native m43 lenses. And it's close to half the price of the N1 V3.

This camera should be on the sidelines of every youth soccer match, baseball game, football game, quidditch tournament, swim meet, etc. There really is nothing on the market quite like it. As a V1 owner, I'd love the improved controls and increased megapickles. .
Not even...
Yep, I bought an OMD EM10, 25/1.4 and 45/1.8 instead of upgrading from my V1 to the V3. And the funny thing is, the whole mFT kit cost me just 100 bucks more than the V3 woudl have.
Sometimes, things aren't about price.....
However, to the masses, price is the biggest factor. But if the V3 is decidedly not marketed for the masses, then it is alright
Maybe so if you are rich. I'm not.Sometimes, things aren't about price.....
I'd say Nikon DSLR users that already own Nikon glass....

Or a 10x better camera, like the E-M10 or A6000, for just a bit more. There is no going around it, Nikon 1 V-series gear is waaaay overpriced.Which is why the cheaper "S" and "J" lines of the Nikon 1 system are available....

I actually hope this camera never gains widespread popularity - kind of want to keep its attributes a little under the radar. Nikon is helping fulfill this wish with its pricing and shortage. Interesting to see what happens next.
