Manhole covers, anyone?

I had never thought of manhole covers as an art form, but yesterday we found this while on a walk:

I'm about 25 miles away from any I find interesting but they'd be boring anyway for most people; the ones that caught my attention were because they were from covers that aren't in the streets but rather in the sidewalks and from the former "Bell Atlantic" telephone company (now Verizon). I always thought old covers were interesting because even for large utility companies like Bell that they'd often have cover designs that were unique to the local region instead of a single standard design across their entire footprint.
 
I came across this drain cover on our recent trip to Germany and thought about this thread. I think the symbol is for the city of Lübeck, the cover was in the nearby town of Travemünde.

I have to say that this particular cover had a poor airtight seal, so you can believe that I didn't spend long crouching down and composing the photo :poop:
