I think hope is something that the world could do with more of at the moment. In the Northern Hemisphere at least, there is hope of an end to winter. I hope that my hip improves soon so I can start walking seriously again, and more importantly that Manchester City suffer an inexplicable Devon Loch of a collapse in the rest of the Premier League season! I'm sure you can all come up with some interesting takes on the theme.

    Good luck and good shooting!

The Challenge will run for two weeks from today the 17th of January 2018 until Jan. 31, 2018.

All the usual Challenge RULES will apply, including:

    1. Either take pictures that match the nominated theme or select some from your portfolio. You must be the photographer that created the images in order to enter it.

    2. Only one entry per salon, please. If you want to withdraw an entry and replace it with another, that is OK, but you must make it clear in the post containing your replacement pictures that this is what you've done. You can add or change the title and add to the edit line to let everyone know.

    3. The decision of the curator at the end of the challenge is final - don't give him/her a hard time about it: this is just a friendly photo-challenge, after all!

    4. The winner will assume the responsibility of curator for the next Challenge, and as soon as possible post a message in a new thread in the SC Photo Challenges forum, with details of the new theme. Don't forget - that opening message must include a copy of these instructions, which also double as the rules.

    5. The curator cannot enter his or her own salon

Is that a local power plant, Steve? The only one I'm familiar with in VA is North Anna near Palmyra.

That photo was taken when I was back home in Fall River, MA, right after New Years Day. We got hit with that cyclonic bomb that produced a blizzard. That is a coal fired power plant.

No Problem, I forgot until last night too. Too much has happened since the SIJ ended. :)

  18. I demand my money back ;-)

Seriously though, life has that way of getting away from you.

Well everyone, I got distracted again... this time by news at work. It seems that I will be out of a job before too long. But as I was planning to retire anyway that's not so bad. It makes you doubt the value of what you do for 8 hours a day, though. Anyway.....

There were some very nice entries. Thanks for your patience in waiting for the winner so we can move on to Photo Challenge 50 (or Photo Challenge L if it were the Superbowl !!)

    Honourable mentions to:

donlaw - that's my kind of composition, Don, simple but very effective
Bobby Tingle - let's *hope* that money does some good!
kyteflyer - not sure what the cat is hoping for, Sue, (probably food if I know cats!) but it's a lovely animal portrait

But the winner is (drum roll)......

petach - that's a fabulous capture, Pete. The little girl's pose is wonderful, and her dress and the processing make it look like a 19th century image to my eyes. Could have been used as a promotional poster or similar. So well done and we move on....
