doing volunteer candid/behind the scenes photo work for a couple friend of mine for the brides family who cant make it for all the PRE wedding fun

they had a strobist doing most of the regular posed type shots, so dont panic, these arent all theyre stuck with ;)

i was working in some pretty dim light, without flash, so as not to disrupt the main photographers work... so i was often in high iso and slow shutter speed land

heres a small handful of shots

pretty tight crop of a photo with tons of studio equipment all over every other part of the frame

this reminds me of another photo ive seen and loved, tho i didnt realize it till i got home and did a quick flip thru some shots and saw it in aperture. i swear i didnt intentionally copy some other photo tho! lol. thats the main photographer in the shadowy foreground btw :)

theyre gonna do another photo session before the wedding, and then wedding day... so if anyone has any comments... tear me apart! its my first wedding type duty, not getting paid.. and they know im wacky with my styles, but i always wanna learn! :)

    teach me wise ones!
i am ready for your wisdom!

Just keep doing what you do. Take it where it wants to go. I like the candid "gottsya" look.

fwiw, I'm already happily married and we never had any wedding photos, but if we did, I'd consider you to shoot it. Posed photos are boring. These are memorable.

    OMG
tear me down BEFORE building me up LUKE!!!! youd make a terrible drill sergeant... at least from what ive seen in movies... ;)

thanks so much! thats a crazy nice compliment!

tho, youd have to hire someone to bore you with poses so i could catch silly moments between anyways... so youd still have some posey shots... lol

    lukes craigslist ad:
"couple looking for wedding photographer to bore us with poses while my friend from a forum takes photos of us between shots"

    lol :)

    thanks for making my day!

These are great because they are just good photography. (I just came here from a discussion about shooting weddings with a phone.) A collection of these and "technically perfect" posed shots would be my choice for the best wedding album.

you should be able to figure it out...
I missed this the first time through. A lot of nice shots but I absolutely LOVE the B&W of the hanging dress and drapes - just wonderful light!

I took lots of photos at my nephews wedding, they paid for a professional too,

I visited them this weekend and they said they should have just paid me :) They didn't like the photographers stuff, too posed etc, and loved mine as they were like your candid shots and I got them in their natural modes.

So yeah, I think the old type standing and posing photos are not really the norm these days?

I was so happy they loved my shots though, it was great :)

I love all the shots you took too! you got the REAL couple, I esp like the wedding dress in the window shot :)
