A little post-processing with an oldie but a goodie

    I have this disease involving my old Olympus D-550 and clouds. I carry it nearly everywhere in the hopes of getting an interesting sky shot.

    The other morning I was in the parking lot at the grocery store when I saw the rising sun illuminating an interesting weather front moving through.

    My first shot was this:

    Today, I cropped it, fiddled the exposure and color temperature to produce this:

    Finally, to take everything to excess, I converted it to B&W and stepped on the contrast, producing this:

    I started with jpgs and manipulated them with Picasa and Picnik.

    The beauty of cropping and PP. Love it. Have you tried Snapseed ??

    I would suggest that this is a good analogue of manipulating a film negative in the darkroom, something that many practiced in order to bring out the latent potential hidden in their negative. I know that I'm guilty of skimping on the post processing, not to over process which I find false and the ruination of a shot, but to extract the most of what is there and use it to show the mood of the scene that encouraged us to press the shutter in the first place.
