    *this time actually containing photos.

Ok, first, it's not as bad a storm as 2 years ago. We got an honest 2 feet in Boston, sometimes a smidge over. Winds were pretty good, too, but only crazy out on the coastal islands and the cape. Mostly it was a great day of sitting by the fire, sipping home brew, and wishing my daughter didn't have a raging fever of 102 all day so we could get outside. Oh -- and she was kind enough to loan said fever to me the next day, so I missed work yesterday and slept til 11 feeling like crapola. MUCH BETTER NOW THOUGH.

So i got some pics, but it's limited because of my illness.

Much like 2 years ago, they issued a driving ban. But they didn't say anything about snowmobiles! Outside my house, on what's normally a very busy street...

Local sledding hill, where the Mrs biked my daughter and I both (!) in the cargo bike yesterday to get us out of the house. I was much too sick to bike, but I stood in the midst of the hill, dodging sleds, and got action shots of strangers crashing.

how does that cargo bike handle with an adult human (+ a little one) in the cargo bay. I would think it would be awkward. You're a trooper for going out in it. When I feel as bad as you probably did, I just get wasted on cold medicine and sleep.

It really wasn't bad, actually. It's slow, and heavy, but stable. You have to have a good attitude about it... :) But when you compare it to the hassle of owning a car around here, it feels like you're getting away with murder. It's so much fun, so enjoyable, so personal and quiet and fresh air and and and...

I spent the first half of the day "doing the dying," and I knew I was missing all the great moments outside, stuck indoors. So I was incredibly antsy to get outside with a camera. I'm still mad at all the great stuff I missed... people towing snow boarders behind bikes through Harvard Square, etc.

This ... is what "prepared" looks like. (Also my SIJ Day 30 submission) Fat tire bike, and his own shovel to dig out parking spots at racks.

We had some snow here yesterday afternoon. About 1/16 of an inch.

    Trains were cancelled...
    Roads were blocked by accidents...
Accident and Emergency departments were full to overflowing...
It took me half an hour to drive less than three miles home from the station because of the traffic jams...

you should be able to figure it out...
When I lost touch with the whole bike tech-geek community, the Pugsly had just started/defined this category. If Mongoose is doing it now too, there must be a few others as well. There was a side of me that sort of wanted one of those for a while, but if there's one thing I always came to hate in any sort of bike, it was really heavy rotational weight, so I figured I'd be happier with a full suspension bike with lighter wheels rather than a simpler bike like this. That wouldn't have helped me on the snow or sand, but that was where I came down on it. But they sure are cool. Must be easier now if folks are actually making components to work in these frames with these huge mutha wheels...

I see them around town regularly now. I won't go so far as to say they're popular, but yeah if cheapo Pacific Cycles-owned Mongoose is making one, then you know there's a decent market for them. Decent enough, anyway. They do look like a ton of fun.

Well, yesterday it snowed for almost 24 hours, and we got something over a foot more snow. I haven't looked for the official count, but it was probably over 14" I'm guessing. I'm not completely over this cold yet, but I still got out a few times... once to the sledding hill with friends, and yesterday during the storm for a walk alone with the camera. I had to have goggles on, tons of layers, and then giant mittens clipped to the camera bag. I'd hang my hands in them til I saw a shot, then pull them out quickly (with thin leather gloves on) and shoot quick, then put the camera back in the chest bag and bury my hands in the hanging mittens again.

My daughter and her friend, after we tossed them into a fenced-off area with virgin snow...

Yesterday after lunch I took a walk to Harvard Square while the snow was still coming down nicely. Getting out and getting shots makes all this a lot more bearable. On the way to the square, I shot only the 35. Then I stopped for a beer in the square, switched to the 18-55, and walked back.

i dislike shorts and I absolutely hate sandals. Pools I have no problem with, but I can't figure out how to live in a pool. I'll stick with the northern climes, I guess.
