I sometimes film and photograph EDM.

I forgot to photograph his face (got lots of video of it though)

Must be an age thing but I had to look up "EDM".

Don't worry, I always called it techno/dance/trance etc until I got the nightclub gig which they kept saying EDM and I had no idea.

    I'm 24 btw.

To the true dance music aficionado, EDM is quite distinct from "techno" (a term which really fell from use many many moons ago); which is quite distinct from ambient; which is quite distinct t=from trance; which is quite distinct from house; which is quite distinct from piano house; which is quite distinct from Italian piano house; which is quite distinct from NY garage ... and so on, ad nauseam

    it's yer tribal instinct, innit?

I really like music from the ECM music label, that's the first thing that came to mind. I guess that still places me in an age-appropriate category.

Up until a few years ago I thought the use of the word 'phat' is still the cool thing on the streets.

As I get older, the more I recognise the truth that it is impossible to know what "cool" is, let alone be cool, once one passes the age of 18 ... I'm pretty sure this is a fundamental law of the universe

Christopher Walken is way past the age of 18 and he's still cool with the kids. The fundamental law of the universe does not apply to him.

EDM in various forms used to be extremely popular everywhere over here in the states. Now its pretty much limited to buying on Amazon and then having to go to a big city to find an EDM club.

I remember when there was a rave going on almost every weekend. No more of that around here though.

I really like the first one. Shows the atmosphere really well.

    YES!!!!!

I hate when people call it techno. Techno is a sub-genre IMHO of EDM. I guess if one gets really technical, it all falls under "Electronica". EDM just means its got a fast enough tempo with enough rythm to dance to. Some techno is. There are even sub-sub genres of Techno. I personally never was a fan of Techno.

I got into progressive trance years ago listening to Paul Van Dyke and Dave Ralph. Now I listen mostly to Tiesto and Above and Beyond. On occasion I like some of the Jazzier house out there which is increasingly harder to find here. I've also been digging some of the newer jazzier/melodic drum and bass.

When I was 18, I used to blast house and "florida breakbeat" in my car going to school. When I was living in Florida, a club playing trance/breaks could be found in just about every major city.

Dubstep here has taken over for the most part though. DeadMou5 has gotten just huge. Its ok, but not my favorite. The other thing that I believe has crushed underground EDM is all the remixed pop songs to make them sound like EDM.

What kind of music is Zed? All the sub-genres confuse me a bit.

See, I'm just too old to know ... I've reverted to listening to '90s hip-hop, its all NWA & Geto Boys now as I roll thru the hood with the top down ...

Yes. Tiesto did a remake on one of his albums that made it feel more tranceish. Maybe Vocal Trance.

    Tiesto's remix

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWTU-Dkwj5M

    I like the song.

Pop-dance is opening the door for some really talented , sometimes not very popular, vocalists to hook up with some talented producers to come up with some good stuff. Wouldn't have happened 10 years ago. The problem is that run of the mill terrible pop songs are then getting remixed and passed off as good dance music.

If you like this type of music, check out Jes Brieden, Justine Suissa, Audrey Gallagher, Zoe Johnston, Sarah Howells, and Emma Hewitt. Some of their solo stuff is mediocre, but some of their collaborated efforts with various dj's is just outstanding. Their voices are much better IMHO than much of the pop stuff coming out of the USA.

See now I would've thought this remix is techno-ish. Or does Trance fall under the larger umbrella of Techno?
