Gosh I had forgotten all about Spratly.
In the world of Amateur (Ham) radio, Spratly was a very desirable contact to have in one's log as it was so incredibly rare. About every few years a few intrepid souls (a "dxpedition") would paddle out to one of the reefs, carefully timed for the least tide, and set up a station. It was difficult and dangerous for all sorts of reasons.
I had a quick google and it seems there was a dxpedition in 2013. Wonder whether these developments make them more likely or less in the future?
