Day 29 - Silver September 2013

Shot on the first day of the challenge and it was the one I intended to go out for on that day. NO idea why I decided not to process it then.

Coal Eater by kyte50, on Flickr

There are a couple of dozen of these monsters on Kooragang Island. The island used to have large open fields with coal loaders on its other side. I used to fly my kites here. Once the BHP Steelworks closed, many of us imagined that our air would become cleaner. It didnt. The coal now lies in huge mountains all over Kooragang, and they dont always water it to keep the dust down. My lungs, not in the best condition, hate going anywhere near this, but to go further up the coast to Nelson Bay, its unavoidable without having to take a 60 minute detour.

Its not at all surprising that Newcastle is the asthma and COPD capital of Australia.

Lost?

Missed day 28. Need to get back on track - which direction?

This is a photo taken technically last night but processed today - at a film location in Mexico City during a long and exhausting 'night shoot' of a movie that I co-wrote. But unlike the crew members, the actors must be ready to go in front of the cameras and somehow be totally 'on' or 'in character' immediately and deeply and convincingly. Acting is a profession which seems somewhere between mysterious and magical to me; here the film's two lead actors, Sean Marquette and Devon Werkheiser, are sharing a quiet moment between shots and takes - but somehow, they seem to have more energy than everyone else around them.

Razor wire

A man can only wait for so long for the low, dull, uniform steel grey cloud with the occasional hint of drizzle to show signs of lifting and breaking and engender within him some inspiration, however it isn't, and shows no signs of doing so. Given that I'm posting one from earlier in the month, given something of a graphic treatment hopefully in line with the subject matter.
