I have just ordered an rx100 and currently also have the sony hx300 super zoom which has a micro multi usb terminal into which the new remote fits allowing zoom and shutter release
Does anyone know if the rx100 will accept this slightly newere sony tech?

No Unfortunately the micro usb jack is slightly different. It is the same size but the 2013 version has little bumps on the jack to prevent inserting it in the RX100 - bummer
wonder what would happen if I filed off the little bumps? It would go in the jack port

If you file it off, let us know if it works! I'm guessing not, but I'm crossing my fingers that they'll include support for this a wired remote in the next version.

It this the same new remote that works with the NEX-3N and HX50?

If it was simply whether the remote would work, I'd try it but the word 'fried' keeps flashing through my thoughts so I will hold off on the file for a while
Yes it is the new remote and can verify that HX300 works
