Visiting Duxford with a friend and former colleague and we were both reminded of our old age when we saw FU hanging from the ceiling. Employed by the then Board of Trade , we had both spent some time in the right hand seat of this de Havilland Dove during our training and were reminded how time flies by! As a callow youth I'd flown in a large silver Handley Page Hastings like the one in the background - a lumbering piston transport with a 3000 mile range. And then my wife and I went on our first package holiday in a de Havilland Comet 4 like the BOAC aircraft here ; even today I think that it was just as quiet and comfortable as a modern jet. The G1X worked very well but the two of us left feeling like museum exhibits ourselves.
