They really need to change the words from "Terms of Service" to "Terms of Exploitation".

I joined for a while several years back and again for a short while to see what I was missing.
I didn't like or have any use for it then or now. I only hear people (members) moan about it. They've changed this altered that etc. online bullying, racism . Suicide clubs , beheading videos. It's one big cesspool . And I hope it goes belly up . If ever there was a reason for switching off the WWW. Then Facebook is it. Closely followed by twitter.
That's what I think anyway. Rant over.

    For those interested:

    Farewell Facebook - YouTube

It's from 2010 and a great short movie. It was made by a friend (who is also the main character in the movie) of my daughter's boy friend. My daughter's boy friend referred me to this movie when we talked about facebook.

I dont mind twitter, but I don't tweet, and I only follow useful people/organisations.. e.g. NSW Fires are good for telling when theres a fire, where it is, and how bad it it. Alan Kohler is a finance wizard I like. my phone company often has useful stuff. I dont follow people who have nothing useful to say. I should apply that to facebook as well :)

Those with Android devices should consider using the "exfoliate" app to remove all traces of themselves from Facebook.

I use exfoliate quite often. In fact its the only reason I even have an android phone :) I do regular deletes although I maintain the account because I do have acquaintances from other parts of the planet that I would otherwise likely not connect with.

For those who want to delete their account (as opposed to just suspending it) the following link will take you there.
    https://www.facebook.com/help/delete_account

Be aware, though, that you should use some form of manual deletion of your comments, posts, photographs and so on. FB Promises to remove those at deletion but I dont believe it. They keep backups of everything (for good reason mind you... if the servers crash they have to have those) so my advice is to remove everything in the first instance, then do not post for two weeks (by which time they should have done their next backup) and THEN delete the account.

After deleting... do NOT attempt to log back in, because that will revive the account. Stay away from it for 14 days, because even deleting isnt really deleting for that period of time.

Exfoliate is no longer available on Google Play. Is the app being maintained and available somewhere else? I'd like to grab myself a copy.

I'm keeping my facebook account (even though I only use it a little) because it is useful for keeping in touch with people I've met who live elsewhere in the world as well as at home. I guess I'll have to let you all know when a multi-national corporation uses little old me as the face of their next global ad campaign

I haven't dug into this further to find out all the ramifications, but I'm definitely not happy about it :(

Unfortunately, I'm in a bit of a quandary because while on one level I'd be happy to can Facebook, it's pretty much the only means of contact I have with a large number of friends and family scattered around the country. Sure, I could email people or whatever but I'm forced to admit there is a certain value to being able to generally "follow" their lives passively in my FB feed and touch base periodically rather than trying to keep a dozen pen pal type relationships going.

I'd love for everyone to give up on FB and move to a social network with a better privacy policy and track record, but then I'd like world peace and a cure for cancer, too

I read today Facebook is waiting to roll this out. But it's only a matter of time. I can't bail out altogether - I have too many friends and relatives on there! But I'm going to start removing tags and maybe photos.

Nope, I got mine last time off google play. I wonder if it hasnt been updated for later versions of Android. Mine is only Gingerbread. If you are on something like Jellybean it might not be compatible (or something) in which case it wont show up.

Its still showing up for me.

See if the link works for you. If not, I'd say its not compatible. It hasnt been updated since early last year.
