    Hi erveryone,

I wanna say thanks for the years of fun I had at SC.
    But now it's all over.
We (Amin and me that is) have discussed my presence at SC which I enjoyed highly.
I was (still am) was very active in posting.
I run out of disk space soon.
    My suggestion is listed below.
Acc. to me a very reasonable proposal.
As Amin doesn't work cooperative with me I made up my mind and leave SC, which doesn't offer me shelter any more.
I wanna say thanks to everyone who have become friends with me at SC, it was a great time I will never forget. You're my friends!
Hope to find you anywhere soon anywhere else, thanks!
For those who wanna contact me:

    I go my own way!

    Kind regards, Herman

That's all, as simple as that.

Let's clear the issue this way right away.

Thanks in advance, kind regards, Herman (Ootmarsum, Netherlands)

so... if I understand it correctly, you're leaving because you're about to run out of space on the SC gallery? That would be a shame, I loved all your image theme threads! Aren't there any other places where you can upload your images? Then again, I assume you've looked for that already and for some reason found those options not acceptable (copyright reasons maybe?)... is it possible to buy your own hosting space somewhere?

    Herman,
I will be very sorry to see you go, but I tried to help with your situation offering a couple different solutions. Others here have lived (and continue to live) within the confines of their spaces as well. I have seen numerous images deleted because of storage constraints. I hope you consider staying around and find a new place to host your images.

In my opinion that's pure nonsense. Space is restricted in all forums I know and I understand that space cannot be unrestricted due to the costs. That's one of the main reasons why I got an account on Flickr. Problem solved.

Herman, you can hide your images on Flickr from the general view and yet hotlink them here to share if you want more storage. I am doing that to save on storage here myself. That way your photos aren't dancing all over Flickr but you do have access to them to post them where you do want them. Please reconsider your options.

I host almost all of my images on Picasa and link them here. It costs me zero.

The advantage to this site are three-fold:

    - no impact on site server disc space
    - no impact on site server load, because the images are not served from the SeriousCompacts.com server but by Google.
    - no impact on site bandwidth which can be a savings if monthly bandwidth approaches package limits

Google is a fairly reliable service which is also nice. Should for some reason SC ever discontinue operation, the images would still be available on-line at permanent links still hosted by Google.

When my space on Picasa fills up eventually I can choose to pay Google for more or start hosting new images elsewhere.

As I run web applications for public consumption (nothing to do with photography) I know about the costs for bandwidth, load, and disc space so I do my little bit, un-asked, to help.

I guess the point myself and others are trying to make to you Herman is that there are options for you that aren't overly complicated and cost zero. Why leave a community you enjoy?

This seems a bit drastic Herman! I have to delete my stuff on here every now and then but generally, by the time I do I'm fed up with them anyway and the one's I like are still on my back up hard drive. Take some time and reconsider. We would miss you :)

you should be able to figure it out...
    Herman,

If you really want to leave, I'll be sorry to see you go. But if its really about photo storage, there are too many easy and inexpensive (even free) solutions that you really shouldn't leave over such a small issue..

But if you decide to go, I wish you well...

Luke and others presented several options to Herman. I went out of my way to explain how to use the free Picasa Web service. Obviously Google can offer more resources than we can, and learning how to take advantage of that is a much better option than using our gallery for everything.

Yes, it does seem a shame to leave such a great place over an issue so easily resolved. I use flickr and smugmug and haen't filled them yet. Why not urchase a 2tb drive and just rotate your shots between the driive and on line?

Best wishes if you leave, I would be sorry to see you go.

Why not just use Flickr or Photobucket to host your images?

Herman, I'm very sorry to read this and hope you'll reconsider using one of the easy options suggested within this thread. I've always used Flickr because it is so much easier than uploading or using attachments. Picasa, Smugmug, Photobucket, etc., are other great suggestions.

Give this some more thought, take several deep breaths and reconsider because you'll be very much missed.:grouphug:

    I agree!!

Herman, I thought you liked SC? Leaving just because you are not getting more space than Amin can afford to give is just silly. Remember that he still has to pay for all this, even though he would be getting funds via various ads etc, running a website which is interactive, like this, and has a facility for image storing, like this, is as expensive as hell.

Please... just get a flickr account like the rest of us have.

Doesn't space on Picasaweb *not* fill up if you keep images to <1024? Even so, Google image hosting is cheap as chips.
