The Fuji X100 is available to pre order here in the UK and the price is £999 which is a tad more than I thought it was going to be. Prices will fall in time though.

Thanks for this Andy! I'm open to any and all information or rumors.

This is the first pre order with a price that I've heard about. I'm sure there'll be more to come. I converted your price to dollars which, at this moment anyway, seems to be about $1,619.00 Considering how the Leica X1 goes or did go for, with all that this promises it will still be something people will go for. I'll be interested in some hands on reviews and to see how the prices might be here in the states, as well as other places.

I'm going to wait until people have bought, used and posted images before i make up my mind. It looks very good on paper but it may not in reality. We shall see. Very exciting never the less:thumbup:

Yes, information from the manufacturer and not rumour from the rumour mill, what expectations did that raise over a certain camera in the last few days.

£999 is quite a hefty price for a Fuji compact, even though it is a wonderful classic line camera.... Here's what fuji has to say about it....

Aimed at professional photographers and available from early 2011, the FinePix X100 has been designed "to appeal to the millions of DSLR users who need a slim back-up camera for high quality in-fill shots when the use of a bigger SLR system is either inconvenient or impractical," says Fujifilm

I don't know if it will appeal to 'MILLIONS'... cos there are many SUPERB 'back-up' cameras on the market with a more reasonable price tag... as it seems a specialist in the aspects of styling... but hey what do I know....

I think this will sell because it's new and very retro. You're right about the many other 'back-up' cameras on the market although i think this will be one of those cameras that keen photographers have as their only camera just like the Leica X1 and not a back up to a DSLR. This is why I think it will sell well but £1000 is over my budget for a fixed lens camera so i may wait for either the price to drop or get a used one. I can't wait for it to be released though. I was all set to get the GF2 but seeing as it isn't what i hoped it would be, this Fuji may be.

This is the bad boy I have been waiting for. I had read on a few sites when researching this cam that is was going to sell for about $800.00 U.S. though. @ $1700.00 I will have to pass. I can't in anyway justify this price.

Time will tell what it actually does sell for. I believe those of us who live here in the states will do better price wise. Fingers permanently crossed!

I really hope this lives up to the hype

I love the viewfinder and layout of the X100 but the lens/sensor will have to be really special to make the concept work.

Some years ago I bought my wife a Fuji Z10 based on excellent reports I'd heard about other Fuji P&S cameras.
It was just about the poorest image making device I've ever bought.

Based on my experience , I can't believe that Fuji will deliver.
I hope I'm wrong and that we get a gem of a lens like the Lumix 20mm but it's a bit risky pre-ordering.

I think that regardless of how good this camera is, a significant number of folks will use it for 3-4 months and then sell used because they miss having the option to use other focal lengths.

It's analogous to Leica M, where I've seen quite a few people sell their Canon DSLR, buy an M8 (or 9), and then turnaround and sell the Leica a few months later when they miss autofocus, or macro, or supertelephoto.

Ouch! That's out of my price range for now... Still, if it delivers what it promises, it will be a great camera for a long time, advances in technology notwithstanding. I'm a patient man and will probably get one eventually.

This will be true for most folks, but for many, like myself, I know what I would be getting myself into since I shoot with mostly primes and in particular a 24mm prime. Even my LX-5 spends 99% of the time at 24mm. I have found that the best zoom are my legs.

Maybe it's just me, but I would think long and hard before spending £1000 on a DSLR let alone a back up to a DSLR.

I expect that'll be a lot of people.

This is why I like having a GF1 backup to an M: best of both worlds and I can use the same lenses on both.

Well, I may turn out to be one of those people who buys it and keeps it - after I learn a great deal about it, and it has been out for a while. I loved my X1 and sold it not because of its fixed lens but because it was missing somethings that I realized I needed. I should have known this before I bought it but I was seduced.

The X100 will have to be as good as the Leica X1 optically for me to be interested and for it to warrant the high price tag. As tempting as it is to buy the X100 on looks alone, it would be mad to!

a few months on since all these posts above, and it seems the X100 is really living up to the hype! Fuji recently released a statement saying demand has been so high it's increasing production and apologising in advance for delays!

Looks like a winner so far, but then again so did the Pentax K5 (which i have) when it was released - got my fingers crossed they'll be no quality issues :)

Can't help thinking it's their own fault for stoking demand in the first place. Maybe if they didn't have the production capacity they should have gone a little lower key. Unless of course they view scarcity as a desirable state for the moment and are happy to be behind on production.

I suspect Amin will be proved correct; as you know I own the Leica X1 and what a super camera it is but since buying the NEX5 and the S95 the later sits comfortably in my pocket they are the cameras I use.
I have no intention of selling the Leica but it won't be used nearly as much as the Sony.
The reason being the Sony is more versatile the large sensor gives me pleasing pics and it has 18-55mm lens at the present time, which I may add to when more lenses become available.
