Fujifilm F550EXR on the street.

Discussion in 'Fuji Forum' started by kyteflyer, Sep 23, 2011.

  1. I've used the 550 instead of the ricoh or X100, most of the time, partly because I am anxious about approaching people, and I don't want to get walloped.

Just a couple from me. Hope to see more from those who have not yet moved theirs on.

First, taken earlier in the year at PMA Sydney

Second, taken at The Big Fig Gig a week or so back

Third, taken today as I was driving back from the beach. Seemed like hundreds of schoolies were out on the streets, at the beach... everywhere. This lot were lurking on a street corner in the centre of town. I don't know why kids have to destroy their uniforms...

I love my other cameras, but I can be stealthy with this one... and it seems to work. For me, anyway :)

    Hi Sue,
Very nice images. Well seen and well processed. RAW or JPEGS? Thanks for sharing your work.

  4. Thanks, Bill and David.

They were just jpg, David, and processed in SEP, and also using some noise reduction in PS

Sue, these are great black and whites! I especially like your first and third because. I'm especially drawn to the teenagers and that one girl's expression. I would love to see these in larger sizes. Any chance you can give us a link to them on Flickr or on your other website?

  6. Thanks, BB. MY flickr is linked in my sig, but I fear you may be disappointed. I don't usually upload full size and for these two I did not. The one of the girls is slightly larger, likewise the other, but none are at full size.
    Here are the girls
    Here is the fella

And here's a bus stop meeting: click on it to get the largest available size.

I am definitely NOT disappointed Sue - seeing them on Flickr they're much larger than the ones that you've posted here and I find them even more compelling. Consider embedding sometime, it's a quick and easy mode of posting and allows us to see them larger, and thus appreciate their nuances even more.

I really do like your black and white post processing and love the look that man is giving his bus stop mate, too.

These are superb candids Sue! Love the B+W conversion too..... So you zoomed out to 15x with these? If so that's very nice resolution for that optical formula and 1/2" sensor!!!

Well done Sue. I really like the picture of the school girls. I'm guessing the writing on the shirts is a protest of sorts against wearing a school uniform, but with them all doing it, it's become a uniform in itself.

Are we starting a street thread for beginners? It might encourage more of us to get out there and give it a go. I was gonna have a bash with my new grd iii.

Right on Karen! We first floated the idea in this thread. Now just waiting for our guide for the journey, Don (streetshooter), to march us forward... :th_salute:

Sue, these are superb, you have a quick and gentle eye!

  12. Thank youy, Lili, very much. A gentle eye... I'm flattered.
  13. Thanks BB, these are embedded, I just chose the smaller version for ease of loading. I'm happy to choose the larger versions in future :)

The bus stop... I think they were strangers. I was across the street having my car tyres replaced and waiting for that, just looked out through the window of the tyre place and saw them in conversation.

  14. Thanks, Karen. Sadly the writing on the shirts is not anything about protest and everything about writing as much filth in a small space as you can. Thats another reason I did not and will not display the full size shot. Its foul.

I'd love to see a beginner's street thread, I'm just not quite sure which way to go. I love my GRD3 but my couple of attempts on the street with it found me too anxious about getting up close and personal and with the shorter focal length, you just have to. I've loved what the others have been doing with theirs and envy them their confidence.
