you should be able to figure it out...
Not really like a rangefinder, with a ghost image you try to make disappear, but more like the split prisms in old SLRs. Should be nice if you want to critically focus in MF. For me it would be a nice parlor trick but not much more. My use of manual focus is 99% zone focussing which is much more dependent on a good distance scale than peaking or this type of thing...

My old mid-70's Minolta SRT-200 had/has a split screen for focusing. I could work pretty quickly with it. But it's not what you want for all situations.

I think it would work fine for static subjects, but if you are trying to manual focus you really are better served with an OVF. I shoot a lot of manual focus lenses on my D700 (especially the Voigtlander 58 and 40). I don't think I could manual focus those with an EVF as well. But that may just be my failing.

I don't think it's possible to manual focus with the OVF of the X100/Xpro1. Unless they stick a rangefinder in it. That would be really cool!

In darker conditions, the EVF on my XE1 lags even more. So definitely not good for manual focusing.
