At that price? I'd expect them to throw in a little man to twiddle the knobs. As it is it's hard to justify - in fact I don't think that they have a leg to stand on...

Bill I think they probably have the little man but, he is an extra cost option and requires insurance.

The writer of that piece is apparently very well heeled. He states he owns an Alpa camera with numerous lenses, as well as Phase One equipment. To a mere mortal such as myself, that's a ton of cash. My entire cache of gear - cameras, lenses, bags, and tripods - doesn't total $3,200.

Imagine walking out of the shop with that thinking "I could have had an M9 for that".

LOL, as the recent recipient of a humble less than 50USD ball head (with Arca-Swiss fittings) after decades of using the same pan-and-tilt, that ALPA is quite fanciful. When it comes to GAS, I apply the 80/20 - if I can't use 80 percent of the item practically or regularly, move on.

Without doubt it’s engineering excellence. But better than my Manfrotto 190 with mid range ball head ? Not in my opinion.

I thought I was splurging by paying $200 for a Sirui CF tripod with ball head that weighs about 2 pounds total, and it collapses to under a foot and tucks neatly in my pack. Works great.

I'd have to take a nap after assembling that thing.

My photography simply doesn't require this level of precision.
