Don`t worry I won`t pretend to be a camera tester. But one of the things which bothered me in real life use with ilc, including Fuji XE1 and OMd (which I used shortly), was the inaccurate and sometimes unpredictable AF. AF speed is another matter. THe GX 7 which I picked up has a very reliable and accurate AF. The best I have experienced so far. Speed wise, I believe it`s even a tiny bit faster than the OMD. Plenty fast. Attached shots I tried several times, with changing focus from one to the other handle. The GX7 always got it right, fast and no hunting. In camera jpeg, iso 1000, NR turned off, f2.8, Sigma 60mm (a great lens, not only for its price).

    Thanks for this retow!

How big is the focus box? Is it selectable?

Do you happen to have the 20/1.7 (new or old)? Curious how fast it focuses on the GX7. Thanks!

Damn you Retow. :) You just had to go get a GX7 and start singing its praises ... I am trying hard not to get it!

Maybe I'll just tell myself that I can't get one until the black body becomes available in the US.

In focus selection, you can select face detection, multi regular box size af, single regular box size af which are normal and small size and final one is pinpoint which is only a + sign... I found a review with a photo:

I have the old 20mm and felt like it af faster then my oly bodies but still slower then eg Oly 17mm 1.8 which is instant focus as Retow said, maybe a touch faster w/ gx7 then e-m5...

What is wrong with silver body, esp when you can get it from Unique Photo w/ kit lens for $899:)

As we now have quite a number of cameras with good enough IQ, it`s about finding the one which feels just "right". The GX7 so far ticks more of the right boxes for me than all the other compact mirror less ilc. I liked the NEX7 a lot, but not its lens selection. In use, the GX7 reminds me quite a bit to the NEX7, except that its AF is much faster and better in low light and its touch screen very useful. Whilst the new Olympus E-M1 looks like an impressive tool, it lacks exactly why I even started with compact system cameras in the first place: weight and size advantages. It`s darn close to a Pentax K5II. Combine the K5 with a few of the Pentax ltds and I would be hard pressed to choose a E-M1 over it.

Iso 1600, 1/13 sec. IBIS works, high iso is good enough for me. In camera jpeg and no PP.

Retow, nice images. Which lens? I started the gx7 image thread a couple days ago:
    https://www.photographerslounge.org/showthread.php?t=22664

I tried a BIGMA today and small box af works in the gloomy rainy weather here. It is not the fastest but maybe faster then the nex af lenses or close to 20mm focus. Camera doesn't have the card, so I will try more later.

Armando, I guess you are waiting for this black camera:)

    Thanks for this info!

    +1

I will be in Japan next week for work. I heard they may have some camera shops. I could be in trouble.

    :)

Only problem you might have with that is Panasonic cameras sold in Japan comes with Japanese only menu, so I don't know if you can change the language. But there are other cameras to check also...

Good tip, thanks! Seriously, I probably am just going to be on the lookout for hard-to-find accessories.

Yes, I'm waiting to check out the XE2. And meanwhile, resisting the temptation to buy the GX7 and/or XM1. And hoping that there will still be a XPro2 in the future.

Yes, the launch of the XE2 is supposedly just one week away. But it's always that last week that is the hardest to wait ... especially when it will likely take another month before they make the good available to the general public.

Just way too many nice cameras in the market nowadays. I loved the GR, but decided against it in the end, because I'm not a 28mm guy. I loved the IQ in a small package of the RX100ii, but I didn't like the UI and handling. Yet, I still like both of them, and could eventually buy them again. Yikes.

you should be able to figure it out...
I've been shooting with a GX7 as well and fully agree that it's a really compelling camera. I'm not in the market for another m43 body (perfectly happy with the EM5), but if I was looking for a smaller body, I'm pretty sure I'd go for the GX7 over the EP5. And it's been a while since I'd have picked a Panasonic body over an Olympus.

For me this comparison ends once I want to shoot the camera without using the viewfinder (which will be about 95% of the time in my case). I'm still juggling the E-M1 in my head but it's hard to come up with a good value argument for why I need it...
