Last weekend my wife and I drove up north to visit my wife's family. My father-in-law had a bounty of apples that needed to be picked before the coming freeze. I told him that I'd be happy to relieve him of a couple dozen. He handed me his apple picker tool and my wife grabbed this action shot with her phone. (my crop and processing)

These aren't your fancy store-bought polished apples. They look bruised and gross, but were actually crisp and a great mix of tart and sweet.....actually much sweeter than any "wild" apple I've eaten straight from a tree before. Good "eating" apples.....I wouldn't "waste" these making apple sauce or pies normally, but there's just so many.

I followed the recipe here...... Classic Slow-Cooker Apple Crisp and 3 hours later, the aroma of cooking apples, cinnamon and brown sugar and oats permeated the house, I knew it was time. Let's see how it looks.

I quickly ran to the grocery store to buy some vanilla ice cream. The ice cream makes it. If you're in the neighborhood, we've got a few servings left.

We also have a little whipping cream if someone prefers that over the ice cream. :2thumbs:

I find the only way to solve that conundrum is to have both.

I think I've made better. The slow cooker is not best suited to creating a crispy crust (which I like). I also like the apples to be a bit firmer. Next time I'll do one in the oven. I'll share the results this week because we have more apples.

Looks good. Reminds me of picking pears off my grandfathers pear tree.

I used to love the apple crisp at Roy Roger's fast food restaurants. I imagine that yours is even better!

Having apple pie, ice cream and custard right now, thought that would be a good time to re-read this thread again!
