Was in Japan the last couple of weeks for our annual office outing. On the second last day of the trip managed to visit this stunning museum by Japan's most celebrated living architect, Tadao Ando. The building unfolded as a series of experiences. Truly a master at work. I reached the museum when light was failing fast. Grabbed a few quick images before it got too dark (I wasn't carrying a tripod). These pictures are taken with the Ricoh GR and a wide conversion lens.

Looks like you had challenging light, and made the most of it. That building looks incredible, and threads like this make my morning... being whisked away somewhere new and seeing good shots of it. My favorite is the mom biking / daughter on scooter.

    Thanks for sharing!

I was a pretty big fan of Japanese Modernism during architecture school, and would love to make it over there for a 'study' trip (especially St Mary's Cathedral and some of the new residential projects). You've done a great job communicating what's great about their work

That's only a smattering - the museum (which I can't find a link to) is well worth a drool.

Even though we were 15 architects on this trip, architecture was the last thing on our minds. We had all been working too hard and needed to let our hair down. Top of the agenda was food!

I missed seeing the St Mary's Cathedral, though some people from the gang did go. I went to Shigeru Ban's church Takatori Chirch in Kobe, but was a bit let down. The building is not maintained very well, which is quite a strange occurrence in Japan. His earlier paper church, that stood on the same site, has been taken to Taiwan. That would have been more interesting to visit.
