In the Footsteps of Robert Frank

In the early 50’s Robert Frank visited Caerau in South Wales and took some memorable if not iconic shots of the Coal Miners working there.
Treading in his footsteps today nearly 65 years later I visited Caerau and tried to find the same street. The mines have long since closed and gone, and all that’s left are the old trackways and hill scars, but I think I found the right street.
Nobody walking around unfortunately - just me and some ghosts.

Yup, it looks like one in Frank's photo. Interesting attempt and reportage.

It must have been special to be in that street, knowing its history. A lot has changed. and at the same time it has not. Interesting.
A thing that struck me is the differences in lens characteristics. In Fran's photo the doors are leaning towards the viewer, in your away.

a lot to do with angle tilt of camera I expect
I was aiming for 35mm lens - actually 39mm was used but I have no idea what lens type or camera Frank used here
There is a huge difference in lens distortion on my X10 compared with my SLR wide angle and Olympus Trip. The Trip is better for least distortion and verticals and both better than the X10.

Neat idea and cool photos. You may have just invented a new type of photo-tourism!
