Don't see what the fuss is about. The photographer has perfect light to play with. Any decent mobile phone cam could take this. The cheapest P&S could take a much better picture here (take a close look at the horrible sky) and the cheapest p&s is cheaper than an iPhone or any smart phone.

Yes, you're right, I do think smart phones are a con, the iPhone the biggest con of them all. That said, if someone gave me a Samsung Galaxy or an HTC Desire I would very happily keep. Give me an iPhone and I sell it and buy a proper camera.

Waving my hand here, to say that if anyone does have an iPhone they want to give away...and since Olli doesn't want it - I'll take it!

As for the link and photos, bebuzz - many thanks! It has been waaaaaay too many years since I've been to the USA's wild west and these remind me that there's much traveling for me to do!

P.S. We do have a Cell Phone Camera Photos thread here, just in case you might like to see it or add to it.

Or they could give it to me and I could sell it to you at a very reasonable price:biggrin:

This is an iPhone HDR photo, and it's not really over-the-top, just kind of an average shot. The far building is one I lived in as a child.

Apparently it's popular among off duty professional photographers. I cam across this blog entry at Photoshelter via a route too complicated to remember. It's a list of some of the compact cameras preferred by a range of professional photographers.

Okay, I deliberately kept both a non-HDR and HDR version of this shot. This is the in-camera iPhone HDR, so you can see what it looks like. Sometimes it really adds something, sometimes not. This is a case where I think it was an improvement.

    First, no HDR:

    Second, with HDR:

I'm not sure which I prefer...and at least right now the only real difference I can see is that in the HDR version there's more detail in the shadows, the colors are less intense and there is a tiny blue tone to the whites... However, I am very impressed with the iPhone camera - and with your very handsome collection of cameras!

Have you figured out which cameras you're bringing on your trip?

Where I see the most improvement in the HDR is in the mid-tone parts of the GF1's front. Also, the shiny part of the desk is less overwhelming. (Normally, I'd crop that part, but I thought it showed the difference nicely.) It also did some nice dirt removal. :)

I gave my desk a good washing this morning. Needed to clear all the stuff off of it first.
