After reading all the posts here I just ordered Nikon V1 with 10-30 and 30-110mm lenses. Even if I don't like it as a stills camera, I will use it for video — the samples I have seen are excellent and it has a mic jack which is a must for me.

I've thought about it for video work also. It's not a one-trick-pony -- it has some pretty cool capabilities.

And still the best AF for any mirrorless camera.

Yes, its capabilities are amazing. I'm really sorry there wasn't anything like it when I was studying physics — its 1200fps super slow-mo video capture would have been handy sometimes, even if it's low resolution.

I'm also looking forward to using it as my camera for occasional bird/insect shooting.

I am thinking of getting the V1 and 10mm as my pocket camera too... I would've bought one a few days ago but I can't find any blacks. :frown:

Pavel, did you get any kind of special deal on that particular V1 kit? The prices of the remaining V1's that I can find have been going up as the supplies dwindle.

I just bought it on eBay. I ordered the 30-110 lens separately from Roberts, it's just $109 with free shipping on their website (refurbished).

The 30-110 was my favorite lens out of the three original Nikon 1 lenses. It was the one where the size was really an advantage over its larger sensor counterparts. Plus the in-lens stabilization works really well.

    That's why I bought it! It's a serious telephoto and it's smaller than Panasonic's 14-42 kit lens!

I wonder how the new 80-400mm does on the V1--anyone have experience with it? It's actually a serious question for birding...the auto focus and crop make it a pretty attractive combo ($250 body on $2500 lens notwithstanding).

If Nikon had ever released a 600mm or longer lens for the 1 Series, I'd probably have had one for a while.

I havent had the 30-110 off the V1 since I got it. And the 10-30 mostly stays on the J1. I think I might have to play some more with the 10mm sometime!!

I actually wanted to buy the white one but they were more expensive!

I don't have the 80-400mm, but the Tamron 18-270mm works very well. Autofocuses nicely with Nikon adapter:

Well now, that's very interesting. So you could have a V1 + adapter + 55-300 for 810mm FOV, right? That would blow any superzoom away in terms of IQ, albeit at 3 or 4 times the price.

If you're thinking of the Pentax 55-300... no. The DA lenses dont have an aperture ring and it stops right down when off camera. You need to have the FT adapter ($300+) and then buy the Nikon lens you want to use with it. I had the same thought... I bought a pentax K mount to CX adapter, and I can use it, but only with the lenses I have which have aperture rings. Theres no autofocus of course, but also no focus confirmation. The adapter is basically just to put the distance between the flange on the lens and the sensor. It doesnt do anything else.

There is a very inexpensive Nikon 55-300 AF-S lens which is fully functional on the V1 + FT-1

When the cost of both is added together... meh... I'd rather have the primes :) I only mentioned the pentax one because I know Chris has Pentax gear and I made a (perhaps false) assumption that was what he was talking about.
